ORT JET transforms Speed Dating into Speed Networking

ORT JET recently hosted its first networking event of the year for small businesses. More than 60 entrepreneurs attended the event at the Waverley Shul hall. This was an opportunity to meet and connect with likeminded people and expand their business network. Although we have held networking events in the past, this was the first of its kind in this format and from our feedback it was well received by all who attended, says Cindy Silberg, Business Mentorship Manager of ORT JET. Speed networking is based on the popular model of Speed Dating. It is a meeting format designed to accelerate business contacts and involves multiple people gathering in a round-robin set up which is random and time bound. During the brief set period of time participants share their professional background and business goals. Networkers are generally seeking exposure

ORT JET South Africa has gone global!

Paul Bacher, CEO of ORT JET, has been working with various people in Canada and the USA, to get JET going in their neighbourhoods. This initiative has real legs. A group of Baltimore professionals and entrepreneurs is the first to start the ORT JET model of business training in the US. And they are using all our methodologies, processes and documents. It is not every day that a small local outfit gets a USA crowd to launch our homegrown concept, said Paul proudly.

JET MENTORSHIP SUCCESS STORY

ORT JET has helped me fly!! I have found angels who have taken me under their wings, have guided me and taught me not only about business but about myself too. In 2011 I was nominated as the best travel consultant out of a consortium of 130 branches in Africa. It was an incredible honour after 20 years in my industry and having travelled to nearly 50 countries. I know and love travel. I believed this knowledge would help me run my own business!!! This was one of the lessons I learnt - it does not mean that I am a great sales person, that I am a great business owner or accountant! I had so much to learn and have been teamed with Mentors who have shared their knowledge and experience with me so patiently. So often their observations on my weak points and criticism on my methods have allowed me to grow in ways I never believed possible. I thought ORT JET was for someone else and I would not qualify. I now see that ANYONE who has a dream and believes they can start on their own is NEVER ALONE. If they choose they can be part of the ORT JET TEAM. I am so grateful to Cindy and the team especially Ian Edelman and Dina Cramer!!

ORT JET and SABJE have partnered to establish an entrepreneurial programme for high school pupils. This custom-built initiative is based on The Startup Method which is used by top universities around the world. The project will run during the course of 2013 and will be piloted in the King David High Schools. "The King David system has produced many captains of industry over the years, and it was therefore important to maintain that innovative culture" says Rabbi Kacev, Director of the SABJE. The programme is aimed at educating, training and exposing students into the exciting world of entrepreneurship. Sunday 3 February 2013 saw the launch of the Future CEO Project. Held at the Discovery offices in Sandton, the session opened with an address by Mr Gidon Novick, CEO of Discovery Vitality, himself a King David graduate. Gidon inspired the 55 students who attended, with his story of failure and success. He spoke of some of the key ingredients to successful entrepreneurship and how it relates in the current business environment. A presentation was then given by Paul Smith, the Startup Method accredited trainer, providing the learners with insights into the world of business. Paul Bacher ORT JET CEO said, ORT JET has always been about empowering and motivating individuals to succeed. We are thrilled about this new project and expect amazing results. Ask ORT JET

Q Many mentor/mentee relationships fizzle out. How can this be prevented? A Like any relationship, the mentor/mentee relationship takes effort and commitment from both parties. When energy levels start to wane, it is important to keep the communication open and honest. It is critical to plan meetings in advance, set realistic goals and ensure these are met by the date set. At any time when you hit a challenge, call ORT JET. We are here to support you every step of the way and see you through the process.
