Reflection Paper about Family Size What would have been the implications of a family size policy?

Well, a policy that restricts family size might be viewed in antagonism by those societies which favor large families as they view this quality of families as a signal of prosperity, etc. Such policy would override these cultural meanings and as it is the case, it may not receive much of public support. Demand for contraceptives can also be anticipated as conception as a consequence of sex is now regulated by a policy when before such aftermath has no other non-personal factor with which people are influenced upon in making their decisions. Similarly, since a policy will be made for it, what would have been the punishment for non-compliance? And if the policy will indeed be suggested, who will support it? Clearly this is a matter of what values people put in family sizes. Restricting family size now meant that there will be less people to support the soon to be elderly populations. As technology permits higher and higher life expectancies, people will live longer and there will be less young people to support them. This is a telling implication and if we ought to have such a policy then we ought to think along these lines. We however do not solve the issue by leaving it as it is. The earths carrying capacity is not unlimited and if we continue living without any policy or anything, we will eventually lack the resources to sustain life and our population will be forced to crash to a level that the earth permits. Certainly it is a frightening scenario and we as being held responsible for the future generations should think along these lines as well. If supposedly we have forgone the how, who should decide then? The church can be argued to be an anti to the policy as it has an outright aversion of the use of contraception and it knows far well that having such a policy will predispose people into using them. Hence, its decision is of a moral influence but is it is biased. The state can perhaps have a more democratic way of dealing with this issue. It can be manned by policy advisers, including economists and biologists which can bring in different perspectives to this issue. As biologists are for example aware of r and K strategies, they will be more careful in deciding.
