Everybody knows EVERYBODY; word travels fast. May be able to spread word about initiatives quickly? Mr. Carey is the point person on many specific family involvement events, can help organize

MOVING FORWARD
Utilizing the small community to advertise at the right places and with the right people who will spread the word and speak positively about the school. Engage Mr. Carey more fully, not just for his organizational and planning skills, but for his input on the substance of our parent

Low-income families are a consistent struggle to involve.

PTA and PoPS (Parents of Positive Students) are largely divided (both racially and economically) Parent involvement is rarely related to academics/achievement

Teachers are frustrated with lack of involvement, parents feel distrustful of school; poor communication as a result Very few events happen that reach EVERYONE/where everyone feels comfortable attending; lack of unity An us vs. them mentality; feeling that parents are out to get teachers

Teachers HAVE to be willing to step out of their comfort zone. We have to meet parents where they are. Present and help organize joint events with the PTA and PoPS, explaining the rationale; encourage PTA to move beyond just fundraising Parent University? More events outside of school hours where teachers rotate attendance; makes them more approachable
