I would agree with you. It makes you wonder what happens to children to turn them off school? They come to school so eager and excited and then, some, not all of course, are either turned off or feel defeated. The more early childhood programs we offer to children hopefully will further help them in their educational challenges. Exp. Field-Based Internship Reflection Form For Internship Experience Standard 1: Visionary Leadership; Standard 2: Instructional Leadership; Standard 3: Organizational Leadership; Standard 4: Collaborative Leadership; Standard 5: Ethical Leadership; Standard 6: Political Leadership Standard and Criteria 5.a Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior Level Early Childhood Time Spent 6 hour(s) Note

Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page). My specific role in this experience was observer and volunteer at the summer early childhood program in Waterloo. I visited the early childhood program during the summer to see how it was run and how the young students were learning. It was very nice to see how much the young children soak up information and listen to the teachers and instructors. I simply observed and helped out when asked to. I did not do any teaching by any means, but was able to assist a few teachers in the ever important teachable moments. Ethical and professional behavior is a must in the proximity of the very young learners! They literally will soak up and sometimes repeat what they hear. It was a very humbling experience to see how eager the young learners were to listen and learn. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). I was very comfortable in the secondary level with the students and staff. I forgot and have not even thought about the necessity for administrators at the early childhood level. I would argue that these early years are even more critical than the later years because the teachers can make such in impact on the students that this may be the moment where the kid decides they like coming to school or hates school because of a bad teacher. I learned that there are different strategies in teaching the young learners. There is a need for much more patience and kindness. As I mentioned earlier it was a very humbling experience.
