Utility, Firmness, and Delight, thats the definition of Vitruvius to Architecture. With its various meanings from different architects and personages, as we have grown with our chosen vocation, we would likely employ our own meaning to architecture, meanings that will strengthen our identity, and will put foundation to our principles as architects. Professor, my fellow classmates, a good morning Knowledge has certain guidelines that will make that knowledge as such. We have learned theories and standards on architecture, but now we will refresh our minds with its fundamental principles according to the great man named Vitruvius. Architecture revolves around on Order, Arrangement, Eurythmy, Symmetry, Propriety and Economy. Order gives the arrangement of all the parts of the whole. Arrangement is the positioning of things in their appropriate places which is expressed in our plans, elevations, and perspectives. These three expressions are products of our Reflection, our careful analysis of things and Invention, our provision of solution to things. Eurthymy is beauty and fitness, found at its explicit proportion of works. Symmetry is a proper understanding of the work itself, and its relation to the different parts. We apply symmetry in our anthropometrics and ergonomics. Propriety is the application of style according to its function. And lastly, Economy deals with the proper management of materials from its cost and common sense typically applied in construction. Likewise, its second stage comes when we plan different kinds of dwellings for different people with different social status. In culmination with all the principles we have witnessed, as future architects we must keep in mind to hold strong with our convictions, to be passionate with our craft and to be acquainted with our education. These will keep us going, and further reach the summit of our profession.
