EVIDENCE OF FOUR RAK'AAT

SUNNAH BEFORE JUMMA' SALAH

Ali narrated; “Holy Prophet (SAW) used to offer ra'kaat before Juma' and
four after that and he used to make salam in the last Ra'kaah (only).”

The chain of narrators in the above narration is good. (Tarhut Al-Tathreeb, vol 3, pg

Abdullah (RA) narrated that Holy Prophet (SAW) used to offer four ra'kaat
before Juma' and four after that.

Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) said; "Holy Prophet (SAW) used to offer four
ra'kaat before Juma' and four after that with no (salam) in between."

{Mu'jam al-Tabarani al-Awst vol.10 pg.276 Hadith # 12506}

The above hadith with the chain of narrators that appear in Tabrani is Hasan.

Ibn Masud (RA) used to offer four ra'kaat before Juma' prayers and four
after that.

{Musannaf Abdul Razzaq vol.3 pg. 247 Hadith # 5524}

Allama Zailai’ called it 'Mauquf.'

Abdul Rahman as-Salami said; "Abdullah (b. Masood) ordered us to offer
four ra'kaah before Juma' and four after that until Ali (RA) came to us
and he ordered us to offer two ra'kaat after Juma' followed by four."

{Musannaf Abdul Razzaq vol.3 pg. 247 Hadith # 5525}

Though 'Mauquf' but the chain of narrators in the above Hadith is authentic. (Athaar

Narrated from Abdullah bin Umar (RA) that he used to offer four ra’kaah
before Jummah with no Salaam in between. (And) after Jummah two
rak’aah followed by four.

(Athar as Sunan Hadith # 941)}

Abdullah bin Masood (RA) used to offer four rak’aah before Jummah, he
did not separate them with a Salaam in between.
