Blurring the Geographic Lines: A modern cross cultural organization (draft would request collective input)

Purpose of the project: To understand the symmetries and asymmetries in Indian PSU and Japanese MNC and impact of culture on dispute resolution Objective: In our current era modern communication and advancement in technology have effectively blurred geographical distance and have converged world economy. Today, we experience working with people from across the globe more often than ever before. Also companies from different places across the globe set up business where ever there is a market potential. However, understanding and integrating a countrys culture is a big challenge for all modern multinationals. Through this project, we will delve into the realm of work organizations as defined by a true Japanese and a true Indian multinationals. Also we will study the various steps a foreign company adopts to bring itself closer to the foreign country. Rationale & Relevance: Each one of us in our career is likely to face the challenge of cultural integration and assimilation to be an effective manager. This project will provide everyone an opportunity to learn the best practices followed by organizations across verticals irrespective of ownership patterns and country. This will provide us a learning base for us to implement in our life.

Scope of the Study (will need discussion): Picking up five (05) different aspects of work organization and compare the approaches adopted by different organizations: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. Planning function (macro to micro) Associate Compensation Associate Development Corporate Social Responsibility Labor Issues Management Productivity Measurement etc Hiring/Firing/Sub-contracting to match production
