1 Read, view, and listen for pleasure and personal growth 4.2.3 - Maintain openness to new ideas by considering divergent opinions, changing opinions or conclusions when evidence supports the change, and seeking information about new ideas encountered through academic or personal experiences. 4.3.1 - Participate in the social exchange of ideas, both electronically and in person. 4.3.4 - Practice safe and ethical behaviors in personal electronic communication and interaction. The target audience for my video will be high school students, grades 9 through 12. (1) These students range in age from 14 to 20 years old. (2) The target high school students come from diverse cultural groups including: African American, Caucasian, Asian American, and Latin American. (3) The target audience also includes students in various education levels from entry/remedial to advanced placement. (4) Students have a select group of entry level skills that include the ability to locate the library, check out books, and use technology resources such as computers. (5) A wide array of learning styles is displayed in the target audience including: visual, auditory and kinesthetic or tactile learners. (6) The ARCS model provides a systematic approach to motivating students. The students attention will be gained by providing a visually striking video that will hold the attention of the students. Relevance will be established by showing other students interacting in the video, showing that the video pertains to them. The familiarity of the school library and having fellow students select books will help the target audience gain confidence in their ability to find books for pleasure reading. The students will be satisfied that they are able to select books for pleasure reading after exploring online resources. Objectives: After viewing a video about finding books for pleasure reading in the media center using online peer reviews, high school students will be able to confidently select books reviewed by their peers. After viewing a video about finding books for pleasure reading in the media center using online peer reviews, high school students will be able to use the resources in the media center to research books.
