Of Mice and Men Argumentative Paper (30)

Common Core Standards: CC9-10W1: Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. In an argumentative essay, defend whether or not you think the relationship between George and Lennie was a mutually beneficial, win-win relationship. Support your position with specific and relevant details and examples. (You may use what you know about symbiotic relationships to help substantiate your claim.)

2. Take one of the claims listed below, and using Of Mice and Men, provide a valid argument for it. Be sure that your paper is about the book; remember that you are being tested on how well you can use this book to support your claim. We have discussed these ideas in class; now it is your chance to defend one of the statements: Having friends fulfills our basic human needs. People who are strong know their strength and how much they can hurt other people if they want to. The purpose of life is to strive for, and eventually reach, our goals and dreams. Running away from a crime is never acceptable. Killing another human being is intolerable and should be punished. Excellent (6/5)
