AFRICA & THE MIDDLE EAST

AKONGO

The supreme god of the Ngombe who live in the Congo area. He is the creator and as such he bears the epithet 'he who forms', meaning that it was he who gave the world its shape. (The Creator God)

BAATSI
The first man, made by the Creator out of clay, which he covered with skin and filled with blood. Then was made a woman, name unknown, with whom Baatsi was commanded to make children. (The Father)

CHIRUWI
The Chiruwi ("mysterious creature") is a Central African half-man, with one leg, one arm and one side. Seen from the missing side he is invisible. He will challenge all those he encounters to a fight. If he is defeated he will beg not to be killed and in return he will offer the knowledge of many medicine. The victor will then became a very successful medicine-man. Should the Chiruwi win, however, he will

kill his victim. (The Rebel)

ESHU(TRICKSTER)
Eshu is the Yoruban trickster/messenger god. Also known as Elegba or Legba, he acts as a messenger between the people and the gods. Sometimes his tricks are unpredictable and extremely cruel.

MONKEY (THE JESTER)


In the middle east the monkey is represented as the clown. He is known for being cunning and clever when playing tricks on unsuspecting people.

KIBUKA(WARRIOR)
Kibuka is the god of war of the Buganda tribe. He represents the typical soldier who follows orders. It was said that he died after a girl he cared for told others of his location.

THE OWL( THE PROTECTOR)


In the middle east the owl represents the protector. The owl represents the souls of un-avenged dead people. The owl was seen as a wise and feared animal who watched over its people from its resting place.

LION( THE RULER)


The lion represents the king of the savannah. He is one of the most feared and respected animals in the grasslands. Other animals know not to mess with the lion because he is ruthless and wont be disrespected.

HYENA (THE SPY)


The hyena represents the spy in Africa . For his special sense of locating its prey and its predators. The hyena is the best example for the spy.

Nelson Mandela represents the liberator for Africa. He used his own creative tactics to free Africa from the British

The Femme Fatale is a sexual and a financial archetype, and either comes from or is drawn to money and power. Seducing men with

money and power and for the sake


of personal control and survival is a classic part of this archetype, although the Femme Fatale is not looking for a home in the suburbs and the pleasures of family life.

ORPHAN CHILD
The Orphan child is plagued with the fear of abandonment, always seeking reinforcement that others will not "leave, which makes the establishment of mature relationships difficult

African children have been left orphaned,


vulnerable and alone. Research indicates that 800 children in South Africa are orphaned every day. Today, an estimated 2.2 million South African children have currently lost their parents and are living alone, mostly in the countrys many townships.

RESCUER

SAMARITAN
closely related to the Martyr archetype, with the essential difference that Samaritans make sacrifices for those they might be least inclined to serve, as in the

Gospel parable of the Good


Samaritan. The act itself can be as simple as stopping in the street to give a stranger directions when you are in a hurry to get somewhere.
