Dear Parents/Guardians, My name is Jasmine B.D.

King and I will be in your childs classroom to help teach and observe the students for my ECED 429 field experience class. I will be spending a lot of time help the children in the classroom, giving them the extra help and guidance they need to succeed this academic year. Since I will be spending a great amount of time with your child, I feel the need to give you some background information about myself. I was born and raised in a small town called Greer, South Carolina. Greer High School is where I earned my High School Diploma. Throughout my high school career, I participated in activities such as the Varsity Cheerleading Team, Greer High Step Team, Senior Representative on Student Council, and Teacher Cadet. After taking Teacher Cadet my senior year, I realized that my dream was to teach young children, in order to make a difference in someones life. After graduating from Greer High School in June 2009, I chose to further my education at Lander University. As a freshman I knew the best major for me to pursue was Early Childhood Education. During my time at Lander I have taken many courses that have prepared me for teaching in a classroom. When I did clinical work for my classes I began to get attached to the children and it just reassured me of what my purpose is in life. In the fall of 2011, I chose to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Once I became a member of this sorority I began to do more hands on work with children as community service. I have helped a lot of children in the community inside and outside of the school setting. During the summer of 2012 I took an intern course that required me to work at a daycare as a teachers assistant. My experience at the daycare was amazing. I got to care for children as young as one years of age to eight year olds. The children at the daycare gave me a better understanding how a teacher guides children to reach the appropriate development skills. When I returned to Lander in fall 2012, I enrolled in another intern class but this time I helped Spanish-speaking children with their homework afterschool. This course gave me more practice with helping children who may have a language barrier. All through this intern class took up a great amount of my time, I still managed to complete sixty six hours at my ECED 329 field experience and remain on the Deans List. This year is my senior year at Lander University and I look forward to helping children in the local public schools for my ECED 429 field experience. In my opinion, teaching children and helping them go as a person is one of the best jobs to have. As a parent I understand that you may have some question or concerns about me helping in the classroom. If you ever need to contact me you can e-mail me at jasmine.king@lander.edu. Sincerely,

Jasmine B.D. King
