Soccer Study Guide

1. Because soccer is an international game, the rules and regulations must be standard throughout the world. FIFA functions as the governing body of world soccer. 2. The world cup is held every 4 years. 3. Kick-off starts from the center circle. Each team must be on their half of the field. 4. A DIRECT foul - A free kick that can be scored without another player touching the ball. 5. An INDIRECT foul - A kick from which a goal cannot be scored directly. Another player must touch the ball before scoring. 6. Corner Kick - Taken at the corner if the DEFENDING team caused the ball to go over the goal line but not into the goal. 7. Goal Kick - Taken at he farthest point of the box if the attacking team touched the ball or caused it to go over he goal line. 8. Throw-in - A method to restart play after the ball goes outside the touchline (side). Ball must be held with TWO hands and released directly over the head. Both feet must be touching the ground. 9.There are 11 players on the field in one of 4 positions; goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward. 10. Duing the game a player may use all surfaces of the foot. INSIDE (instep for short passes and accuracy) The LACES for longer distances (less accurate).
