:KDW¶VQHZ"

This part describes the new version for users who are already familiar with the non-
windows version of the SEDOMAT 3500.

The goal for the new concept was to increase the user friendliness and the look. The
user interface now is based on PHQXV, GLDORJER[HV and LFRQV and is similar to MS-
Windows, used on today’s personal computers, making the SEDOMAT 3500 more
interactive than before.

Each IXQFWLRQNH\ (in version 0.xx these were called softkeys) opens a PHQX. Selecting
an item in this menu executes immediately a task or first opens a GLDORJER[. A dialog
box gives a clear overview of all relevant information, parameters and selections and
lets the operator fill in and check everything before accepting the dialog box.
Furthermore, the menu tree is reorganized. The function key area and menus have the
same contents in all screens. Menu-items are disabled when they are not relevant in a
certain situation. This fixed menu structure helps the operator to memorize the location
of each menu-item.

Each function key, menu-item, function, process parameter, etc. is represented by an

LFRQ. Icons are self-explaining and visualize the adjacent text. For function keys, only an
icon is shown. Pressing the function key will show the adjacent text on top of the
opened menu. Icons allow operators speaking different languages to use the controller
without having to select another language first. Furthermore, the icons are compatible
with the SEDOMAT 1500 and SEDOMAT 600. The definition of the icons representing
functions and parameters is part of the configuration.

2SHUDWRU0DQXDO 2000/12/07 BARCO-SEDO•6('20$7 GLVFRQWLQXRXVZLQGRZV•3DJH

Compared to version 0.xx, following items have also been changed:

• Programming paths
Feedback from our customers told us that the fourth programming path wasn’t often
used and so decided to limit the default number of parallel paths to three. This results
in a clearer structured screen and important increase of speed. However, for users
who still want four paths, the SEDOMAT parameter 6 (PROGR.PATHS) can be
changed.

• Status area
The position in the dye program curve is shown in the status area. Furthermore, two
process parameters have been added, bringing the total number to six.

• Display backlighting save mode

When no keys are pressed for ±2 minutes, the brightness of the screen is halved. This
increases the lifetime of the backlighting lamp.

• Speed
There is a considerable increase of speed making working with the SEDOMAT 3500
more pleasant.

• Security
Each menu-item can be secured with an operator or a supervisor code.

• Barcode
An optional barcode reader can be used to scan data to fill in alphanumerical
windows and to scan formatted barcodes to execute a command such as a stop
declaration.

These latest improvements on the previous generation SEDOMAT 3500 are of course
also implemented:

• MS-DOS-compatible memory card.

• Access only via code.

• History: batch oriented.

• Events logging.

During program run, the 0DFKLQHYLHZ (see above) visualizes in real time the status
of the dyeing process by filling the symbols for the machine parts with a certain color.
The view is not updated when a dialog box is on top of it. Examples of what can be
shown are the filling of a tank, the activation of valves, the movement of the cover of a
tank, the temperature of the liquid (blue or red). Furthermore, process values measured
in the machine are displayed on the exact location in the machine drawing on the screen.

 3URJUDPYLHZ

This view shows in real time the active program functions in the three (see first picture)
or four (see second picture) parallel paths of the running program. The view is not
updated when a dialog box is on top of it. The screen shows up to seven program lines.
The program line in the magnified area (1) shows all function parameters, the other
program lines only show the first two parameters (3-path mode) or the first parameter
(4-path mode). A detail view allows seeing all parameters in detail: see 6.9.

As the program advances, the program lines are shifted up. The operator can interfere in
the running program and for example continue the program on another line or change
the function parameters.

The blue rectangle (2) is the cursor. An active function is on a green background (3).
Magenta pointers (4) show the position of the program sequencers.

/LVWZLQGRZV (3): Lists data from which items can be selected. If only one item can
be selected, we call it a VLQJOHVHOHFWLRQOLVWZLQGRZ. If more than
one item can be selected, we call it a PXOWLVHOHFWLRQOLVWZLQGRZ.
A blue border indicates all selections.

(GLWZLQGRZV (4): Used to enter or change values. The value can be numerical or
alphanumerical, so we have QXPHULFDOHGLWZLQGRZVand
DOSKDQXPHULFDOHGLWZLQGRZV.

&RPERZLQGRZV (5): Are the same as single-selection list windows, but take less space
in the dialog box.

,QIRZLQGRZV (6): These windows do not contain changeable data. They provide
information for the operator and ask operator’s acknowledge.

The use of the keys in each type of window type is explained in 4.3.5 up to 4.3.10.

Depending on the situation, some windows are disabled and displayed in light gray (7).

Each dialog box contains one or more DFWLRQEXWWRQV (8). These are used to execute an
action upon the entered data.

The FXUVRU (9) indicates the window that is selected. When opening a dialog box, the
cursor is located on the first active window, or when there are no editable windows, on
the first action button. The selected window is highlighted (white text on a blue
background).

For security reasons, the supervisor can define for which menu options and views an
access code is required. There are two code levels: operator level and supervisor level.
When selecting a protected entry, the SEDOMAT asks for the code:

Enter the code and press J.

Entering the code allows access to all menu options and views protected on that level.
The access times out when there is no keyboard activity for ±2 minutes. Once a
protected dialog box or view is opened, the access permission persists, even after long
keyboard inactivity. When afterwards another protected menu or view is selected, the
code has to be reentered.

The SEDOMAT works with batches. Each batch has a G\HSURJUDP related to it and
may be accompanied by EDWFKSDUDPHWHUV and EDWFKLQIRUPDWLRQ. The batch parameters
allow that the same dye program is used for different filling levels or with different
quantities of chemicals. The batch information has no influence on the dyeing process.
This information is only used to provide additional data about the batch.

The SEDOMAT can be loaded with two batches: the FXUUHQWEDWFK and the VHFRQG
EDWFK. While the current batch is running, the program for the second batch can already

be loaded, allowing SDUDOOHOIXQFWLRQV in it to be activated. For example, the side tank

can be filled from the moment that the tank is no longer needed for the current batch.

Batches can be entered on the SEDOMAT or can be fetched from SEDOMASTER.

SEDOMASTER allows planning of batches.

Batches are moved from the second batch to the current batch when a program ends.
This is illustrated with following tables. The first flowchart is for stand-alone
SEDOMATs, the second flowchart is in case SEDOMASTER is used.

A dye program consists of a sequence of functions that are executed. Most functions
have parameters. For example, the function 5(*8/$7,21 has the parameters
7,0(, 7(03(5$785( and *5$',(17. The function and the parameters

are represented by an icon: a large icon for the function, small icons for the function
parameters:

3-path mode: or 4-path mode:

When the function is not in the magnified area, only the two first function parameters
are shown in 3-path mode, and the first function parameter in 4-path mode:

3-path mode: or 4-path mode:

The dye program is divided in three (default) or four paths. The left path always
controls the main dyeing process. The other parallel paths usually control the side tanks
and the dye kitchen. Each path contains functions applying to the corresponding tank.

A program is executed line by line. All functions on a program line are executed
simultaneously. When a line is finished, i.e. the SEDOMAT received an
acknowledgement from the PLC for all functions on the line, then the next line is
executed. For some functions, an acknowledgement that the previous function is done,
is not required, so the SEDOMAT will not wait to execute it. This way, it is possible
that in the same path, two functions are active at the same time. Example: during the
filling of the dye kitchen, the operator is called to add dyestuff.

Each path has a VHTXHQFHSRLQWHU pointing to the function being executed or pointing to
the function that will be executed next. Sequence pointers are magenta.

A program always contains special functions that control the flow of the program. These
functions do not perform any action on the dyeing machine. These functions are green.

Besides the special function 23(5$725&$//, with which the program flow can
be changed by the operator (see 6.10), also parallel functions are possible to call for the
operator's intervention. For example a function like &$//7$1.B$calls the
operator to do something with tank A and to confirm when the action is done.

The mechanism used by the SEDOMAT and PLC to execute such function is the
following: when a CALL function is executed by the SEDOMAT, it is send to the PLC.
To notify the operator, the PLC can e.g. activate a lamp, or send a PLC message to be

confirms by e.g. pressing a button on the control panel of the machine or by pressing a
user key on the SEDOMAT (see 4.3.11). After confirmation, the program sequencer
jumps to the next function in the same parallel path.

4XHVWLRQSDUDPHWHUV
Usually, all functions have constant function parameters, but the programmer can
decide not to fill in a parameter value, but to leave the selection of the parameter value
to the operator. The function parameter is therefore defined as a TXHVWLRQSDUDPHWHU. In
the 3URJUDPYLHZ, such parameter is displayed as red question marks:

The use of these keys is explained in chapter 6.

In some cases however, the normal course of a dye program has to be manipulated.
Examples:

• Abort a batch for some reason.
• Change function parameters and start/stop functions: during program development,

For this, the SEDOMAT offers several tools in the ,QWHUYHQWLRQVPHQX .

When a dye process has to be interrupted for a longer period, e.g. for the weekend, the
operator or supervisor has to indicate a program line on which it is safe to stop the
program. No need to wait until the program reaches a safe position and then stop, but an
interrupt can be inserted beforehand.

Technically, an interrupt can be put on any program line. To set an interrupt:

• Select the 3URJUDPYLHZ.

• Browse to the program line on which the program has to stop.

• Delete the interrupt: Repeat the |ø ,QWHUUXSW key sequence on the same

program line.
• Move the interrupt: Just set an interrupt on the new program line.

When the sequencer reaches the marked program line, the program stops. The marked

When an error occurs in the SEDOMAT, the PLC, the dyeing process or the machine,
an alarm is generated. In case of a serious error, the program is stopped or halted. A stop
ends the program immediately and completely. A halt stops the sequencers. The active
functions are completed. In case of a warning alarm, there is no influence on the dyeing
process.

An alarm can result in the activation of a lamp or a horn. This goes via the alarm
marker. There are five different alarm markers for different levels of importance. The
configuration defines which alarm marker is activated by the alarm. The IL in the PLC
defines what happens when an alarm marker is set.

 6WDWXVDUHD

All alarms have a priority. The alarm with the highest priority is displayed in the status
area of the SEDOMAT with the alarm icon (1) and on a red background (2). When there
are two alarms with the same priority, then the first occurred alarm is displayed.

The other alarms can only be seen via the $ODUPVGLDORJER[ (see below). When
there are no alarms, the reserved area is used for local or PLC messages. These
messages indicate background actions. Local messages are displayed on a pink

There are three possible actions taken by the SEDOMAT:

• Stop program: The program is stopped immediately and completely. The user has
to remove the cause for the alarm and then delete the alarm.
• Halt program: The sequencers are stopped and the active functions are completed.
The user has to remove the cause for the alarm and then delete the
alarm.
• No action: The program proceeds. These alarms are warnings. They disappear
automatically when the cause for the alarm is removed.

The 96 alarms are divided according their origin:

• Alarm 1-32, 41-49, 57-64: User alarms. These alarms are defined during the
configuration.
• Alarm 33-40, 50-55: System alarms caused by the PLC

The SEDOMAT records analog values (e.g. temperature, pressure, level) and logical
values (e.g. pump direction). The data is memorized per batch, along with all events
(see 9.5). There is one record each minute. There is no recording during the inactive
time between batches.

The oldest batch data is removed when there is insufficient memory for the new batch
data. The number of recorded batches is limited to 20. The amount of recorded time
depends on the number of analog values that are recorded. This number is defined by
the configuration and is maximum eight.
