13 Keystone Library Storm Water Runoff Calculations When calculating the runoff calculations for the Keystone Librarys storm water management, we used an Area of Interest of 37,696 ft.2 or 0.86 acres. To calculate the pre-development runoff, we used the formula: Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.3)(2.0)(0.86) Q = 0.645 cfps Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.3 is the high end runoff coefficient for farmland, 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.86 is the area in acres. To calculate the post-development runoff we used the same formula for a total of six different surfaces and added the results together for the total post-development runoff. The formulas and values utilized are as follows. Concrete roof of library: Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.95)(2.0)(0.1) Q = 0.237 cfps Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.3 is the high end runoff coefficient for concrete, 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.1 is the area in acres. Green roof (concrete): Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.95)(2.0)(0.02) Q = 0.047 cfps

Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.95 is the high end runoff coefficient for concrete, 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.02 is the area in acres. Green roof (grass): Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.1)(2.0)(0.07) Q = 0.017 cfps Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.1 is the high end runoff coefficient for lawns (sandy soil, decent drainage), 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.07 is the area in acres. Parking lot: Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.95)(2.0)(0.5) Q = 1.187 cfps Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.95 is the high end runoff coefficient for concrete, 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.5 is the area in acres. Side walk: Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.95)(2.0)(0.02) Q = 0.047 cfps Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.95 is the high end runoff coefficient for concrete, 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.02 is the area in acres. Landscaped area: Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.2)(2.0)(0.003) Q = 0.0015 cfps Remaining grass: Q = CfCiA Q = (1.25)(0.3)(2.0)(0.22)

Q = 0.522 cfps Where 1.25 is the adjustment factor for a 100 year storm, 0.3 is the high end runoff coefficient for farmland, 2.0 is the rainfall intensity for Indiana, and 0.22 is the area in acres (calculated by adding up the areas of the library building, the parking lot and side walk and subjecting the sum from the original Area of Interest). Total post-development runoff: 0.237 + 0.047 + 0.017 + 1.187 + 0.047 + 0.522 + 0.0015 = 2.0585 cfps. The different between the pre-development runoff and the post-development runoff is 1.4135 cfps. Theoretically, the post-development runoff value should not be higher than the pre-development runoff value. Thus, it would be in the best interest of the project to design a storm water management plan that minimizes the difference between the two values as much as possible.
