The Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Grant Week

Name of Organization: Brookwood Elementary School

Name of Partner: Chick Fil A 4201 Washington Road Evans, GA 706-447-8895

Brief Overview: With funding from Scholastic Library Publishing, the Communities matter @ your library will develop a large selection of career books/materials that can be used by our guidance counselor, classroom teachers, and in the media center.

Objectives of Program: The objective of this program is to teach and inform our students about the various careers and job opportunities that are available. This will correlate with the Columbia County Career Standards.

Program Plan This program will last throughout the school year and will be used with the 1st through 5th graders at the school. Our partner Chick Fil A will assist us by bringing in people from various careers and leadership roles to speak to our students. This will be done over a weeks time with the scheduling of speakers in each grade level.

Timeline: August 2013-May 2014

Budget: $3,000 Grant New Books on Careers total of 50 $750.00

Supplies for School Year $500.00 New Student Computers for Research of Careers $2500.00

Evaluation: The program will be evaluated by the assessment of the students understanding during lessons taught by the guidance counselor and classroom teachers. The students will also give feedback of the new books that were purchased for the Career Program.

Commitment: Brookwood Elementarys Media Center is committed to instilling a life-time and love of reading with students from a young age all the way through 5th grade. We are also committed to teaching and informing all of the students about the various careers that are out there for them. We will also make sure that these correlate with the variety of new standards that will be implemented by our counselor and classroom teachers the following school year.
