Amy Peabody October 8, 2012 Teaching a Second Language Microteaching #2 Topic: Family Vocabulary Third grade Spanish class

Objectives: Students will be able to associate family members with the correct vocabulary word, and describe/state the difference between masculine and feminine. The overhead projector will have instructions for the students to create a family tree based off of the vocabulary that we learned in class yesterday. Some of the vocabulary is as follows: (blue = masculine) (pink = feminine) padre: father, madre: mother, hermano: brother, hermana: sister, abuelo: grandfather, abuela: grandmother, bisabuelo: great-grandfather, bisabuela: great-grandmother, hijo: son, hija: daughter, nieto: grandson, nieta: granddaughter, to: uncle, ta: aunt, sobrino: nephew, sobrina: niece, primo: cousin (male), prima: cousin (female), padrastro: stepfather, madrastra: stepmother, hijastro: stepson, hijastra: stepdaughter, hermanastro: stepbrother, hermanastra: stepsister Procedure: The students will only have two to five minutes to make their family tree at the very beginning of class as attendance is taken and homework is collected. As the teacher, I will be able to know how well the students comprehended the vocabulary depending on the correctness and how many words they used. Each student will present their family tree to the class. Follow-up Activities: I will ask students questions to have students name a family member from a different students tree. We will play a puzzle game with family members (for example: I will say in English Your mothers sister is your fill in the blank. The correct response will hopefully be ta) After a review, the students will be quizzed on family members vocabulary it will consist of the students translating words from English to Spanish, and Spanish to English; along with similar fill in the blank statements as in the previous activity.
