Ana Martinez Communicative Task Lesson Plan Grade: 6th Topic: Debate Objective: Students will be able to argue

and debate a topic and justify their reasoning. Students will agree and disagree. Students will ask and express their own opinions and thoughts. Materials: Research topic Computers Paper Voting ballets Procedures: -Teacher will introduce the topic. Debating if public schools should demand their students to wear uniforms. -The scenario will be given: Five students will be selected to debate for the usage of uniforms and five students will be selected to debate against the usage of uniforms. -The rest of the class will be the School Board of Education that will make the final decision. -Students that are required to argue for uniforms will have to write out and present two questions that will need the use of critical skills; this would vary depending on the student. -Students that are required to argue against uniforms will have to write out and present two questions that will need the use of critical skills; this would vary depending on the student. -The students in the School Board of Education will actively be listening to all arguments and take notes. They will be required to make a final decision based off of what they hear. Follow up Activity: -Each student in the School Board of Education will go around and explain their justification to why they agreed or disagreed. -Each student in the class will be required to write an essay expressing their thoughts and opinions on the topic. The students will hand in their essay.
