En los Estados Unidos se usan las denominaciones Arts and Crafts movement, American Craftsman, American Craftsman Style o Craftsman Style, para referirse al estilo arquitectnico y decorativo que predomin entre los perodos del Art Nouveau (el modernismo) y el Art Dec, es decir, aproximadamente entre 1910 y 1925. Sostena que cada objeto debera tener o retomar algo del pasado, pero dndole un sentido elegante.
Segn este enfoque, el artesano entonces se vuelve operario o artista, o un poco de ambos.
