**************************************************************** *********** MS-DOS Network Support ************ **************************************************************** ACUCOBOL-85 for MS-DOS is shipped in a single-user only version.

You can add support for any MS-DOS network to your runtime system by use of the "NETWORK" program found on this disk. This program modifies your ACUCOBOL-85 runtime system and VUTIL file utility program so that they can run in a network environment. To run the program, you will need to know the file names of the ACUCOBOL-85 runtime system and the VUTIL file utility that you wish to modify. By default, these are "RUNCBL.EXE" and "VUTIL.EXE". You can then simply run the NETWORK program and answer the questions it asks. The NETWORK program can enable network support for any ACUCOBOL-85 runtime system starting with version 1.3A. Earlier versions must be updated before they can support DOS networks. You can tell whether or not a runtime system has network support included in it by typing "runcbl -v". This returns the version number and copyright information. It also states whether or not it is a single-user version or a version that is network enabled. Once network support is included, the runtime system should run on any network that supports MS-DOS version 3.1 or later. The ACUCOBOL-85 runtime system automatically detects whether or not it is on a network machine. Also, if you wish, you may force ACUCOBOL-85 into its single-user configuration by setting the DOS environment variable "MULTIUSER" to the value "0". When you do this - or when ACUCOBOL detects that it is not on a network the "-v" option of "runcbl" will state that network support is included but that it is currently inhibited. The compiler automatically runs in a network environment. It does not need to be modified by the NETWORK program.
