In the last few years, Habitat Nicaragua has focused, strengthened and diversified its program to prioritize alternatives for the lowest-income sectors possible. The economic situation of the region has forced Habitat for Humanity in Latin America to evolve and adapt their strategies to socio-economic realities of the countries. HFH Nicaragua is moving away from the Habitat Paradigm of the complete house.

For this reason, Habitat in Nicaragua is leaning towards interventions involving home improvements, expansions, water and sanitation solutions, community infrastructure, that could be done with very small credits and are more accessible for people within our target population, enabling them to improve progressively.
We have implemented different program in neighborhoods in Managua in the last two years through the following projects:

Amanercer IV :60 Home improvements of 96.8 sqf. Amanecer V: 50 Home improvements of 162 sqf Amanecer VI first stage: 12 Home improvements. Of 200 sqf.

Project Description

Amanecer VI
OBJECTIVE
The project will be targeting families living in inadequate housing settings, risky conditions and high overcrowding situations. The project also includes training the families on home construction techniques, housing law, financial education and safe houses, at least one person per family. The house improvements are 96.88 ft2.

Expected results
150 People benefited with adequate living conditions. 30 Home improvements (Houses units built) 30 People trained in Home Construction Techniques. 30 people trained in Huosing Law. 30 People trained in Financial Education. 30 People trained in Safe Houses.

FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE Total cost of the project: US $39,000.00 Cost per solution: US $1,300.00

Team Information
The team will be building at the Olof Palme neighborhood in Managua, 15 to 20 minutes drive from the hotel. 2 home improvements will be assigned for the team, and the improvements are located realtively one next to the other.
