January 8, 2013 Dear Hudson Prairie Families, The Hudson Board of Education is committed to finding a long-term secondary space for learning solution that will address the districts projected student enrollment growth. At the same time, the Board reco gnizes the need to relieve overcrowding at the Middle School and High School in the short-term and continue to provide high quality learning experiences for all Hudson students. During this past November, short-term solutions were brainstormed for both the Middle School and High School. The Middle School short-term solution below was approved for the 2013-14 school year by the Board of Education on January 8th. Hudson Middle School Short-Term Plan: 2012 MS Student Enrollment = 1,307*; 2013-14 Projected Student Enrollment = 1,349** 2013-14 Continue scheduling and classroom utilization for 2013-14 at Hudson Prairie and the Middle School as they presently are this year; Middle School utilizing 3 health classrooms, the orchestra classroom, and the gym first hour at Hudson Prairie. Student enrollments will be closely monitored throughout the spring and summer. IF it is determined that the Middle Schools student enrollment is higher than projected there may be a need for the Middle School to use additional Hudson Prairie classrooms as described for 2014-15 below. 2014-15 The Middle School would use up to 3 additional Hudson Prairie classrooms. Hudson Prairie would implement capping of grade levels as needed to new residents to maintain class size guidelines. As Hudson Prairie grade levels are capped, new student would be assigned to other Hudson School District elementary schools with openings. Presently, collaboration and support between the Hudson Prairie and Middle School communities has been exemplary. The success over the past three years of sharing space demonstrates that IF the 2014-15 plan is necessary, all students will continue to experience high quality education. Until a long-term solution is determined by the Board and supported by the community, short-term solutions will be reviewed annually and adjustments made as needed. I would be happy to answer your questions or concerns as the district implements a short-term, and ultimately a long-term, space for learning solution. Information about the Boar ds progress in determining a long-term secondary space solution will be available on the districts website at www.hudson.k12.wi.us. Sincerely,
