Professional Portfolio Artifact(s) Reflections Cover Sheet PLO: Design, implement, and evaluate environments and activities that

support positive developmental play and learning outcomes for all young children. The Artifacts I have included to demonstrate my competence in PLO 2 include: Activity Planning Form (CHDV 150, implemented and/or revised in 210) Block Plan (CHDV 150, revised or a second one prepared in CHDV 210 as Teacher in Charge Project) CHDV 200 culturally relevant block plan- optional Preview of the ECERS (CHDV 150- optional), ECERS ( CHDV 160), Designs for Living and Learning component of the Teacher in Charge I. Explanation: How is the content of these artifacts used to demonstrate my competence in this PLO and what specific knowledge, skills, or belief systems are demonstrated? Activity Planning Form: Knowledge: Doing the activity planning forms gave me the knowledge to become familiar with writing a descriptive activity form. It gave me the knowledge to think my activities thoroughly. Skills: The activity planning form gave me the skill to write a lesson plan while thinking of questions to ask the children. It also gave me the skills to think of being prepared with different questions the children may have. Beliefs: I believe activity planning forms are important because they keep the teacher prepared with different scenarios that might come up during activities. They keep teachers prepared with answers to comments and questions the children have.

Block Plan:

Knowledge: Before I took child development 150 I did not know what a block plan was, I did not know why it was needed, or how it was used. The knowledge I gained from doing a block plan was that I was able to see how a block plan is filled out and why it is needed. Skills: After learning what a block plan was, the skill I developed was creating my own lesson plan with my own ideas. Another skill I acquired from the block plan was how stay on schedule with my time Beliefs: After doing this assignment I believe a block plan is essential when planning for any week so that I can be prepared and I know what I need to do everyday. I believe it is a way to stay organized. Preview of the ECERS Knowledge: The ECERS taught me that it is important to look at the classroom as a whole and see what area of the classroom needs to be improved. The ECERS have also taught me that the amount of materials in the classroom is important, and also where they are placed. Skills: As a result of this assignment I have the skill to set up a classroom. I now know what areas in the classroom are necessary to help children develop by adding materials to scaffold their development. . Beliefs: I believe the ECERS are important because they have the basic tools that should be in the classroom for children to explore. I believe the ECERS are important to base the structure of a classroom. II. Growth: How do these artifacts demonstrate my growth in knowledge and skill? Activity Planning Form: Knowledge: The activity planning form gave me knowledge to be able to thoroughly think through a lesson plan. It gave me the knowledge to think through every detail of a lesson plan, questions, answers, comments. It gave me the skills to think of open ended questions to ask children. I now know that an activity planning form is not only important to prepare for the

activity I am going to present, but they also help me with open ended questions that help scaffold each child, instead of yes and no questions. Skills: I gained many skills through the activity planning form. I am now able to write a lesson plan that is very specific. I am now able to write step by step what to do as if I was explaining it to someone who is not familiar with what to do. Another skill I have gained is I am now able to ask many open ended questions and start discussions with the children. The activity planning form gave me the skill to write down finger plays, or songs, or strategies to redirect the childs attention back to me. I have also gained the skill to incorporate my DRDPs into my activity planning forms.

Beliefs: I used to believe that activity planning forms were not important as long as I was prepared with my materials. Now I see that they are important so I can be prepared to scaffold all of the children.

Block Plan: Knowledge: The knowledge I gained from the block plan is understanding why it is necessary to have one. The block plan has given me the knowledge to fill out a block plan according to time, and activity. I have also learned how to fill in transitions, how to fill in the large groups, small groups, and work time. The knowledge I have gained has also been to add the changes in environment in my lesson plan. Some of the most important things I have learned is how to integrate the DRDP measures into my block plan. Skills: The skills I have gained from doing the block plan has been that I am now able to fill in a block plan. I now have the skill to fill in proper transitions. I now have the skill to write the activity I will be doing with an explanation on what the activity is. A skill I have gained is how to implement the DRDPs into my block plan in all of the activities including work time, transitions, and outdoors. I now have the skill to make changes to the environment while

keeping the DRDPs implemented to help scaffold the childs development to the next level. Beliefs: I now believe that block plans are very important to have posted because it is a way to stay organized. I believe that block plans should have the DRDP measures to make sure the teacher is helping scaffold every child in every measure, not just select ones. Preview of the ECCERS Knowledge: After doing my teacher in charge project I now have the knowledge to set up a classroom according to the ECERS. I now have the knowledge to understand that there needs to be enough space for children to play, but not enough that it encourages rough behavior. Skills: I have gained the skill to set up or rearrange a classroom. I now have the skill to set up certain areas separate from other areas. For example, I now know that the library area should be separate from the dramatic play area so that both sets of children get the experience they need. I also now have the skill to add diversity to all sections of the classroom. After doing my teacher in charge week I was able to change my environment around, and add different items to more than one center. For example, in dramatic play, I added a cave and I also added writing utensils and paper for the children. Beliefs: I now believe that a childs environment is important for the childs development. I never paid attention to small details in a classroom, such as what items does the classroom have and how are they going to help the childs development. Now I know that adding items for the children to explore is important. I used to believe that I had to give children instruction to use materials a certain way but now I believe that children need to have open-ended materials to gain knowledge. III: Application: How am I going to build on the knowledge and skill that is demonstrated (In other words, what are your next steps?) and how will this knowledge, skill, or belief system be integrated into my future teaching practice.

Activity Planning Form- I will keep writing activity planning forms, improve the activities I already have as I get more experience and I will find ways to scaffold each child. I will continue to take classes to learn how to write

diverse lesson plans to include all different types of children. When I am a teacher I will have the skill to implement my lesson plans and include all children in my classroom. Block Plan-I will continue to use block plans to keep me organized and keep improving them by including culture and diversity. I will continue to take classes in the future to be learn how to write a culturally diverse lesson plan. Preview of the ECERS-I will continue to use the ECERS to find more ways on how to make my classroom more culturally diverse and relevant to the children. In the future I will keep researching the ECERS to make sure I am up to date with them if they change. I will also continue to look at them when adding new materials to the classroom, or taking out materials. I will take workshops on the ECERS to get better knowledge with them and implement them appropriately in my classroom.
