Library Programs:
Reading Rewards:
A program where students who read a certain number of books per month are rewarded with various prizes, including free library passes that they can use to get out of study hall.

Book Organization:
I plan to organize the books by genre as well as with the abridged Dewey Decimal System. This way students and teachers will have an easier time finding specific subject content. In the Non-Fiction section entire subjects will be together. So everything about lizards will be in one area and everything about Greece in another. This will make it easier for students to find materials for research papers and it will also help teachers find items for class easily. The subjects themselves will then be arranged by the Dewey Decimal System. The Fiction books will be divided by genre. The genre groupings will then be in order of the authors last name. This is beneficial when it comes to interesting students in new books. If they are really interested in one book series and its displayed by books that are similar in nature they will be more likely to continue finding new literature.

Student Tutors:
Students who need it can come to the library during their study hall for help in writing and math. Tutors will need to apply for the job and go through an interview process as well as show their grades in the subjects they are interested in tutoring. The map above is my ideal library setup . The circulation desk is situated so the library is visible, particularly the work tables and computers. The group work tables and computers will be kept away from the silent work area. This way students who need quiet to concentrate can have it and groups working on projects have the opportunity to work quietly. Chairs for readers will be placed throughout the quieter side of the library but individually to discourage talking in that area. The shelves will be placed around the walls and then in even rows as needed. The Non-Fiction will start in the back and work its way around the wall and the Fiction will be in the shelves off of the wall and have wall space as needed.

Homeroom Reading Competitions:

Monthly competitions between classrooms for book checkouts. The classes that have the most checkouts a month will receive a reward such as donuts or free library passes.
