Dear Mary, This is nothing like what Id imagined it to be.

I dont have all the support I need; Im struggling to keep everything together. My every move is being criticized be political opponents and presses. Im trying to keep the other states from seceding but it has been challenging. In order to do that Ill had to suspend the right of habeas corpus. I understand that my policy is a bit harsh but a man has to do what he has to do to keep the Union from falling apart. A lot of bad things are happening and its getting to me. In order to have enough men to fight congress had to enact a military draft which turned out to be a disaster. As a result of my decisions people are getting killed and hurt, places are being burned to the ground. I dont know what to do; Im trying to fix everything but its bringing more problems to the table. Love, Abraham

Dear Benjamin Butler, Im trying to help these poor soldiers in any way I can! But Lord, I have seen things Ive never seen before. I enjoy caring for these soldiers and helping the Union Army. I seen so many men die right in front of me and not being able to do anything about it. Blood, ugly wounds, man suffering, thousands of soldiers getting hurt, thats what I see everyday. Im seen and experienced isnt like anything Ive seen before. It hasnt been easy. I face a lot of prejudice but coming here I knew that I would have to get over it. Its sick how some

Dear mother, I dont even know where to begin. Its not safe out here anymore. These lunatics are killing our people as if we arent human. I still dont know whats happening. I keep hearing people screaming and crying for help but theres nothing I can do. I cant get out of the house because if I do Ill never return again. Those angry psycho might come around and kill me anytime. All of this is happening because of the stupid military draft. They think theyre being drafted to free us, this is the reason why theyre going crazy. Ive never been this scared in my life. New York City is being destroyed by those heartless men. sincerely, Edward

The most surprising thing I learned this unit was that many African Americans died because of the military draft that was enacted by Congress and the riots happened in New York City which is in the North. It was surprising because I didnt expect something like that to happen in the North. I thought that people from the North was all about equality and justice for all but apparently I was wrong. They didnt think it was fair for them to risk their lives for African Americans freedom.

I think African Americans faced the hardest challenges during the Civil War because they faced a lot of racism. They werent treated equal; African Americans soldiers didnt have as much villages as the white soldiers did. They were killed because of Abrahams decision.
I think American Civil War was a necessary war because what was going on in America wasnt healthy. Something had to put an end to the disagreements between the two sides. I think the Civil War was going to happen either way, I dont think anything would be able to stop it from happening.
