PROBABLE CAUSE STATEMENT

DATE: June 12, 2013 I, ANGIE HAWKINS, a law enforcement officer for the City of St. Louis, State of Missouri, knowing that false statements on this form are punishable by law, state that the facts contained herein are true. 1. I have probable cause to believe that Demetrius Jerrell Vanarsdale, a Black Male DOB: XX/XX/88 Age: 24, committed one or more criminal offense(s). Count 1: Unlawful Possession Of Firearm (Class C FELONY) RSMo 571.070 ON 6/11/2013 Time: 9:30 PM Place: 42XX W EVANS AVE (SCC 31065) Count 2: Resist/interfering With Lawful Stop Or Detention-subst Risk (Class D FELONY) RSMo 575.150 ON 6/11/2013 Time: 9:30 PM Place: 42XX W EVANS AVE (SCC 27025) 2. The facts supporting this belief are as follows: J.S. was on patrol in an unmarked car in the Vandeventer neighborhood when he saw a Bonneville with Missouri Temporary Tags. He did a u-turn in order to investigate. At that time, the Bonneville sped away. J.S. turned on his emergency lights and sirens and attempted to curb the vehicle. The Bonneville, driven by defendant, sped away. He drove at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hours on a residential street. People were on the sidewalk and street as defendant drove. Shortly thereafter, J.S. was shot at while driving by Robert Simmons, who was a passenger in defendants car. Defendant was arrested inside a house located at 42XX West Evans. Defendant had a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson in his possession. He was seen by Officer Matthew Karnowski attempting to hide the gun in a sofa. On July 6, 2006, the defendant was convicted of the felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon in the 22nd Judicial Circuit.
