Dorothea Dix

She feels as if people in jail are being accused for things they have done in the past and their punishment doesnt match their crime. When she found people in chains she was real surprised by the way people were being treated. Was an American transcendentalist poet, philosopher and essayist during the 19th century. He advocated for the abolition of slavery.

She QUIETLY gathered lots of information about the horrible things she had seen. Then she decided to prepare herself for the Massachusetts state legislature. When she did this she had succeeded in was doing; helping her open her eyes to help other people in different states His beliefs and his idealism were strong influences on the work of his protg Henry David Thoreau

Horace Mann

He was a man who was president of Antioch College and is often called the "Father of Education" He campaigned in Massachusetts for better education, established the Normal School for Teachers in 1839, established free libraries in school districts, the wages of teachers were more than doubled, supervision of teaching improved with compensated school committees, built fifty new secondary schools, State aid to education doubled, textbooks and educational equipment improved, edited the "Common School Journal", and wrote twelve Annual Reports

As a man he was responsible for improving public education in Massachusetts and had an major impact on educational reform throughout America.

Frederick Douglass

Human Rights leader in the abolition movement.

He was a runaway slave. It took about 3 times for him to succeed in being free. His third time he became free helping him realize that freedom is everything to him guess the main thing he was fighting for was his freedom In the early 1830s he helped organize the New England Anti- Slavery Society. He has published 1820 issues against slavery and it states in the excerpt Garrison did not fail to publish as single issue meaning he didnt hesitate a bit. He went about fighting injustice by publishing books about the events that happened to him. Yes he was successful at fighting injustice.

He thought that slavery was the main thing wrong with society. Hes been fighting for about 30 years

Henry Thoreau

Henry was known for his beliefs in Transcendentalism and civil disobedience. He was also a dedicated abolitionist

Nat Turner

He felt that slavery was wrong.

He went about fighting injustice by leading a violent slave rebellion. He was unsuccessful and tried hiding. Nat hid for 6 weeks and was eventually found and hanged. Emancipation movements were removed and slavery laws became even more harsh. He employed what became new measures. He rejected the Calvinist doctrine of passive salvation. He believed that God offered Himself to everyone and that one could be saved only through an active acceptance of God's invitation to grace. They fought injustice by freeing slaves to the North. She was the conductor of the underground railroad, sneaking slaves out the west. Harriet was extremely successful never getting caught. If it wouldn't be for her women would not be equal with men.

DAMN, I cant believe how bad that backfired. I only wanted to help my brothers and sisters.

Charles Finney

He felt everyone should have the right to revivalism. He believed God offered himself to everyone.
