SUMMARY In this section of the research, a critical review of literature on risk assessment on Highway projects is presented.

The common themes within this literature have been identified and a system for risk evaluation is proposed. We have discussed Risk identification, Assessment, analysis, mitigation, allocation, tracking and updating in relation to Highway Projects. Each project has been analyzed carefully and the major risk factors that have affected each project in achieving its objectives have been identified. The objectives of Risk Assessment has been discussed and this is to enable us understand properly why it is important to carry out Risk Assessments. From this Literature Review, It is important to carry out proper Risk Planning to ensure that all the source of Risks are checked. The study of these higher level risk factors at an early stage can be of great benefit for implementing a timely risk management plan that will have a strong influence on the project outcome and more importantly help the predictability of the project. Understanding those difficulties is needed to provide owners with better tools to set up successful projects and/or programs.
