Part 2 Making the SPI Flasher

For the sake of simplicity and lowest part count, supply voltage for programming the chip is taken from the modem board itself so power adapter is needed and is inserted to the board. For in-system programming (ISP) there is a need to provide an external power source and the board shoul not be powered.

Part 3 Programming The Target Device

Windows XP and MS-DOS is the Operating System of choice. Open SPIPGM folder Run or double-click flash_now.bat

Tips: Set on BIOS, LPT to bidirectional or ecp + epp. Hiren disk or live CD is highly recommended and tested, since both DOS and Virtual Windows XP is included in the package. Tested many times. If the chip is protected, connect pin 3 to pin 7-8 and do:

After unlocking, it is recommended to disconnect pin 3 especially on ST flashes, leaving it connected to Vcc may result to overheating and chip damage.

Patience is a virtue, flashing may take 20-30 mins to complete. After successful flashing, verification is recommended but may need more time. Remount the chip to board and test boot up, a good response is 11-15 seconds after power insertion, the signal leds will light up.

Test connection with PC. If all ok, login to 192.168.254.1 using your favorite browser.

THE FLASH FILE INCLUDED IS PATCHED TO ENTER ADMIN MODE AUTOMATICALLY ON FIRST BOOT, PLESE FOLLOW INSTRUCTION PROPERLY, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL PREVENT YOU FROM BEING ABLE TO LOGIN ON THE NEXT BOOT!!!
