THE HISTORY OF THE HOUSE OF WISDOM


The House of Wisdom (Arabic: ; Bayt alHikma) was a library, translation institute and research center. Established in Abbasid-era in Baghdad, Iraq Was built by the Caliph Harun al-Rashid in (192 HA , 809 CE). It had more than 300,000 books in the different arts of science.

It developed by the imam Al-Ma'mun in (218 HA, 833 CE). It consisted of five sections:

Filing dept. Borrowing dept. Copying and binding dept. Maps and drawings dept. Translation and Authorship dept.

It contained books , scientist and researchers from different cultures (India, Egypt and Greece etc.) It was Considered as the first university in the world.

EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT
HOW IT HELPED THE SCIENTISTS , STUDENTS AND RESEARCHERS

Provided a place where all the scientists , researchers could meet all together with different culture background. It had all the needed facilities at that time such as accommodation, foods, place where people could had a rest and all the tools that were required (inks and papers etc.).

Brought the knowledge form all around the world, so all the scientists and researchers gathered in one place.

GATHERED SCIENTISTS AND RESEARCHERS

IN ONE PLACE.

Al-Khwarizmi (Muhammad ibn Musa) - One of the first mathematicians where Muslims have contributed to its significant role in the progress of mathematics (algebra).

Al-Razi (Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariya) is famous doctor who excelled in many of the sciences, and wrote nearly 131 books in medicine.

Ibn Sina (Abu Ali Bin Al Hussein) - is also famous doctor which ranked more than a hundred books in various arts science in Arabic and Persian.

Al-Biruni (basil Abu Ahmed bin Mohammed) - who became famous with his extensive knowledge in the science of astronomy.

THE ACHIEVEMENTS .

Al-Ma'mun sent to the kings of his day to allow missions of translators searching for books in old stores and translate the books to the Arabic language.

The translators and scientists were working in the House of Wisdom in translating books from the original languages into Arabic.

THE ACHIEVEMENTS .

Arabic became pot for each available science at that time, and saw the brighter eras of prosperity, and became the official language to learn sports, astronomy, medicine, chemistry, engineering, philosophy and astrology. Also the library was the center for the author and scientific researches.
