sixth grade son checked out that contains inappropriate language (Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers). The parent was mailed a complaint form to fill out and a date was set by the principal for the Library Advisory Committee to meet with the parent to discuss the appropriateness of the book in a library where sixth graders check out books. In the meantime, the principal asks that the book be removed from circulation until a decision can be made about the book in question. Prompt 1: Evaluate the principals decision made concerning the removal of this title from circulation in respect to a book challenge. Prompt 2: Describe completely a resource one can use to help determine the appropriateness of a title in a school library.

Assessment #2 Ethical and legal Tenets Scenario: A parent has challenged a fiction book as inappropriately available to 3rd graders, the grade level of her child. She has filed the Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Media form with the principal, who has delivered the request to the appropriate people. The principal has asked you to prepare the library media committee to discuss the book and to set a date for the meeting. Prompt #1: Address your responsibilities as library media specialist in preparing the members of the library media committee for evaluating the material involved in the challenge. Prompt #2: Discuss the value of one professional resource as you prepare the committee to discuss the challenged material.
