Somatoform disorders
involve a neurotic pattern in which the individual complains of bodily symptoms that suggest the presence of a physical problem, but for which no organic basis can be found.
Hypochondriasis is a
psychological disorder characterized by persistent in irrational fear of having a disease despite reassurance from doctors that no physical illness exists.
Conversion disorder,
earlier called hysteria involves a neurotic in which symptoms of some physical malfunction or loss of control appear without any underlying organic pathology.
