Title: Care of Patient for Intubation Purpose: Airway Maintenance Secretion Control Oxygenation Ventilation Method: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Assess the patients need for intubation. Explain the need for intubation to the S.O. and obtain consent. Notify the attending physician. While for waiting for the physician, do manual ambu-bagging and CPR. Give prescription of supplies to the S.O. Prepare materials needed: Endotracheal tube (Size 7 or 7.5) Guidewire Manual Resuscitator Bag (Ambu-Bag) Laryngoscope Sterile Gloves Adhesive Plaster 10 cc syringe Suction Catheter (Fr. 16 and 18) Suction Machine

7. Assist the attending physician during intubation. 8. Suction secretions as necessary. Refer to Nursing Manual) 9. After intubation, attach the endotracheal tube to the manual resuscitator bag. 10. Do manual resuscitation while waiting for the patient to be hooked in the respirator/ventilator 11. Continuously monitor the patients vital signs and record. 12. Document the procedure done using Focus Charting
