Instructions: 1. Print and laminate the Whirly Word Wheels 2. Cut out the circles and cut out the inner peep hole; use a hole-puncher to cut the rounded corners then use a metal ruler and sharp blade to cut along the lines from corner to corner. 3. Place the wedged circle on top of the other circle. Fasten the two circles with a brass fastener. 4. Using one of the word wheels, model rotating the bottom wheel until a word is formed. 5. Write the word on the board, and invite students to read it aloud with you, blending all the sounds smoothly together. Repeat until you've formed all the words on the wheel. 6. Distribute word wheels to students or pairs. Have students build all the words they can, reading each word as they go. Then have students repeat the activity.
