Ir. Faridul FarhanUnfollow Follow Ir. Faridul Farhan Ir. Faridul Farhan Abd Wahab The difference -with every type of Circuit Breakers- is with their rated current. But some literatures may say that an MCCB and MCB have the same rated current, the difference is the trip/ protection setting can be adjusted compared to the later. I don't quite agree with this. Besides their rated current difference, MCB only features thermal magnetic protection, while some MCCB's also feature Earth Leakage. This evolved to another type of CB, which are ELCB, RCCB etc. Wallahu a'lam 17 days ago Unlike Like

OmerUnfollow Follow Omer Omer A.Osman The aforementioned types of Circuit Breakers are used in LV System and generally based on the same operating principle. MCB and MCCB/ICCB have a bimetal heater for overload which releases the Contact s while for short circuit the trip / electromagnet hammers itself against moving contacts. The arc created by breaking contacts is extinguished in an arc chamber. Are defined as Thermo-magnetic CBs , accordingly. It is operating characteristic addressing the overload by thermal action of the bimetal strip and instantaneously dealing with short circuit occurrences by electromagnetic action. MCB Miniature Circuit Breaker is suitable for domestic usage. Used to protect final circuits from O/C such as Overload & Short Circuit. i- MCB is basically made in accordance to BS 3871, is now superseded by BS EN 60898 which recognizes type B, C & D. Type B is suitable in domestic premises. Type C is used in commercial & industrial applications. Type D is suitable for application where a high in-rush current is expected. ii- MCB is of low breaking / making capacity as well as low current rating compared with MCCB/ICCB. MCBs available in different number of poles (SP, DP, TP,,). MCCB Molded Case Circuit Breaker & Insulated Case Circuit breaker are also current limiting devices but with high making/ breaking capacity and current ratings compared with MCB. MCCB and ICCB are almost the same and both are manufactured in accordance to NEMA AB1/AB3 to suit industrial and commercial purposes. The advent of electronic protection increased the use of them and the scope is widened like tolerances, range of time & current adjustment. By virtue of that a good discrimination can be achieved with accuracy about 10%. Eventually, MCCB/ICCB has advantages in the capability of accommodating further features which can be provided as i. RCD.

ii. Under voltage device. iii. A shunt trip coils that enabling remote tripping. iv. Auxiliary switches for remote monitoring and/or control. 16 days ago Unlike Like

RajeshUnfollow Follow Rajesh Rajesh Bhalla Just to add what others have mentioned 1-MCB-both O/L & S/C protections are fixed. Low KA Level upto 15KA. Generally used upto 63A 2. MCCB-Available in both O/L & S/C-fixed, adjustable, Only O/L adjustable & S/C fixed. Breaking capacity from 10KA to 100KA. Comes in Thermal Magnetic release and Microprocessor based release. Some variants of MP release also gives inbuilt E/F protection. 14 days ago Unlike Like

OmerUnfollow Follow Omer Omer A.Osman Dear Rajesh, do not forget that there are some MCBs, like MPCB, are provided with adjustable knobs so as to adjust the thermal current as required to suit the load (used for motor protection). 14 days ago Unlike Like

sinnadurai sripadmanaban ABB has made MCB rated SC capacity up to 50kA. Similar to MCB tripping curves types A,B,C,D etc how do you select MCB/MCCB for nearly 20 types motors with various design codes(starting kVA/HP) made as per NEC/NEMA?. 13 days ago Unlike Like

Spir GeorgesUnfollow Follow Spir Georges Spir Georges GHALI There are lot of differences, but I will try to highlight to the most important points of each one. MCB : - MCB means Miniature Circuit Breaker - Designed and tested according to IEC 60898 - The maximum Current value is 125A - The maximum Breaking Capacity Icn according to IEC 60898 is 15000A , where it should be tested according to this Standard for up to 63A and it can be also tested according to IEC 60947-2 , but for > 63A up to 125A the test is done according to IEC 60947-2 where his maximum value is 50kA - MCB Includes 2 kind of Standard Protections Thermal & Magnetic that are designed and tested according to IEC 60898 , where there value are predefined by this Standard and are only Fix type ( not adjustable ) - We can add for most of MCBs an outside Earth Leakage Protection ELP where the connection between them is Mechanical & Electrical , but some manufactures and for small settings the ELP is integrated inside - There are : 1P, 1P+N, 2P, 3P, 4P - Installed on Din-Rail 35 - The dimensions W, H, D of each pole for the standard types are approximately the same for all manufactures, but the width W is different when the setting is more than 63A and/or when the Breaking Capacity is more than 10000A - Most of MCBs accept some Auxiliaries MCCB : - MCCB means Molded Case Circuit Breaker - Designed and tested according to IEC 60947-2 & IEC 60947-1 - The maximum current value is 1600A , but for some manufactures like Schneider Electric

is 3200A - According to IEC 60947-2 there are 2 kind of Breaking Capacities Ultimate Breaking Capacity Icu and Service Breaking Capacity Ics , where the maximum value of Icu is 100kA , but for some manufactures like Schneider Electric is 150kA - Most of MCCBs Include 2 kind of Protections Thermal or Long-tine & Magnetic or Shorttime that are designed and tested according to IEC 60947-2 , where those protections can be : - Standard or Electronic Protections - Fix or Adjustable types either for Thermal or Magnetic or both - Some MCCBs for special applications contain only Magnetic or Short-time Protection - Some MCCBs for Motor application contain special Thermal or Long-time protection to assure the necessary protection for Motors - The Earth Fault Protection can be integrated inside of MCCB, or it can be externally added - There are : 1P, 2P for up to 160A , and 3P, 3P+N/2, 3P+N, 4P for all rang - All MCCBs accept Auxiliaries - We can assemble 2 MCCBs to have Source Changeover system with Mechanical Interlock between them ICCB : - ICCB means Insulated Case Circuit Breaker - Designed and tested according to IEC 60947-1 - The maximum current value is 1600A - ICCB can open under-load - No Protection Inside I want to mention that we can also use the MCB in Industrial applications if the characteristics of the installations place is assured especially Thermal & Magnetic Protections, Breaking Capacity 11 days ago Unlike Like

Ely JrUnfollow Follow Ely Jr Ely Jr Geneston ICCB is Insulated Case Circuit Breaker, commonly known as LV Power Circuit breaker where you can draw in/ Draw out to the LV switchgear, this is a vacuum circuit breaker where you can manual charge if it is already in trip position. and this is associated also

with the protection trip unit where you can adjust the trip parameters eithere IDMT or DMT. For your reference have a look on ABB products Model: SACE PR122, ICCB breakers. 9 days ago Unlike Like
