Safe use of an A Frame 1000mm Double Sided Step Ladder, for minor tasks.

Application: This procedure is for light duties performed using an A frame step ladder, for example to change a light globe. This procedure is NOT for major works and use of the A frame step ladder should be avoided if at all possible. Refer Step Platform Procedure SP001.

Procedure: 1. Ensure necessity to undertake task 2. Ensure electrical isolation refer procedure EI001 3. Ensure floor area clear and uncluttered 4. Ensure the presence of a second person 5. Visually inspect the ladder for defects if damaged or defective do not use. 6. Position the ladder squarely under the work area, not at right angles to the job. 7. Ensure ladder legs spread and stays locked in place 8. Ensure ladder stability 9. Ascend ladder - do not exceed the first step 10. Do not straddle ladder 11. Ensure both feet are on ladder whilst preforming the minor task 12. Do not overreach on ladder if you cannot comfortably reach the target area refer to Step Platform Procedure SP001 13. Perform task, for example change bulb refer to bulb change procedure BC001 14. Descend ladder 15. Close and store ladder
