Aim of this activity: The aim of this activity is for you to interview students/pupils. In the dialogue, you will ask for experiences and insights of their learning especially when instructional materials are utilized. After the interview, you will compile all the learning episodes and accomplish the group processing activity.
Instructions: 1) Approach a college student, a high school student and an intermediate elementary student. 2) When they agree to have this interview with you, please indicate the needed information in the template below.

Mrs. Ang always uses chalkboard in teaching Math. She sometimes uses handouts, Manila paper, pictures and bulletin board. She uses these materials in class. She makes the discussion easier through activities and games. 3. Make inquiries if the teacher uses instructional materials and how the students find these instructional materials in facilitating their learning of the subject. a. Does teacher A use instructional materials (flip charts, flash cards, diagrams, realia, etc) in teaching? Yes. She uses handouts, Manila paper, bulletin board and pictures b. Are these materials helpful? Why? Students find it more interesting and make the lesson fun at the same thing they were able to learn. 4. Find out if there are classes in their school that do not use instructional materials. How do they find these classes (as in engaging, interesting, etc)? a. Are there subjects that do not use instructional materials? Yes. Like Filipino, English and Science b. How do you find these classes? Even though the teachers do not use IMs, it is okay because there are books. 5. Finally, ask if they see if instructional materials are important for learning and studying. a. Are instructional materials important for studying? for learning? Yes. Because it makes the lessons easy to understand. And through IMs, the teachers are able to expalin the lessons well. b. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using such materials in learning? The advantages of using handouts in class are that we can follow Teacher Angs discussion and we will no longer be worried in taking down notes. In terms of Manila paper and pictures mostly of the class are visual learners and it is easier for them to understand the lesson. For bulletin board, it easily gives them the information. However, there are disadvantages of the mentioned materials such as not listening because of the hand-outs provided with the teacher. For Manila paper and pictures the disadvantage of them is the size of the picture and the letters. And for the bulletin board, it consumes space in the classroom.

Make inquiries if the teacher uses instructional materials and how the students find these instructional materials in facilitating their learning of the subject. 3. Does teacher A use instructional materials (flip charts, flash cards, diagrams, realia, etc) in teaching? Our teacher only uses the blackboard in her discussion. 4. Are these materials helpful? Why? Yes. It is very important even if our teacher only uses blackboard because we find it very simple but at the same time we are able to learn Find out if there are classes in their school that do not use instructional materials. How do they find these classes (as in engaging, interesting, etc)? 5. Are there subjects that do not use instructional materials? TLE, it seldom uses IMs. 6. How do you find these classes? TLE focuses on skills and doesnt necessarily require lecture and discussion. Finally, ask if they see if instructional materials are important for learning and studying. 7. Are instructional materials important for studying? for learning? Yes, in some way because we also need other tools to easily understand the lessons. 8. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using such materials in learning? The advantage of using blackboard is that it is the most accessible IMs in the classroom. One disadvantage is using blackboard however is that it consumes time when erasing and also the dust the comes from the chalk will harm our health.

Favorite Subject: Philosophy Favorite Teacher: Mr. Chief Ocampo Let her/him describe how her/his teacher instructs the subject. 2. Describe how teacher A instructs/handles the subject? Our teacher uses the lapel/ microphone in the discussing his lesson, so that the students could hear his loud voice. Aside from the microphone he requires the students to bring book in order for them to follow the lesson. Our book also serves as their workbook for the subject. 3. Make inquiries if the teacher uses instructional materials and how the students find these instructional materials in facilitating their learning of the subject. a. Does teacher A use instructional materials (flip charts, flash cards, diagrams, realia, etc) in teaching? When discussing, Mr. Ocampo uses microphone and the book as reference. He talks a lot about his experiences and uses these as the basis of his lesson. b. Are these materials helpful? Why? Yes. Using the lapel/ microphone helps the students hear his discussion in class. 4. Find out if there are classes in their school that do not use instructional materials. How do they find these classes (as in engaging, interesting, etc)? a. Are there subjects that do not use instructional materials? In my course which is Agricultural Engineering, it very important for a teacher to use IMs especially in discussing. All my subjects use IMs in their lessons. b. How do you find these classes? I learned a lot when teachers use IMs in discussing. Finally, ask if they see if instructional materials are important for learning and studying. 5. Using of IMs in learning is very important especially now that I am 3rd year in which the lessons are more complex. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using such materials in learning? In utilizing the use of lapel/ microphone one of its advantages would be it I easy for students to hear the discussion however using it can disturb other classes especially if the microphone tends to be loud.

With your interview, the article, and as a student yourself; make a free verse poem with this idea: THE FILIPINO YOUTH, EDUCATION, AND THE 21ST CENTURY CLASSROOM Its a Balance Philippine education they start anew The students enjoy, the teachers feel blue Assignments, its just copy and paste Oh the teachers lesson comes to waste Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram The youth prioritize them, come exams they crammed The 21st century promised many things But the youth want hiphop and bling-bling Using gadgets to learn is a new trend I hope conventional teaching wont come to an end Using instructional materials is the most effective Theyre colorful, decorative and attractive Using technology in school is not bad, my friend They save time, energy, effort and its the trend Teachers must balance technology and lecture So that learning is sure Filipino youth, do well on your studies When you apply for a job, its their basis Aim for A+ and A-, to be sure So that Philippine education has their bright future
