COURSE SYLLABUS COURSE TITLE: Capstone I COURSE LENGTH: 13 Hours

INSTRUCTOR: HCC Faculty PREREQUISITES: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides content that the student will use to demonstrate the skills, abilities, and attitudes necessary to pursue a career in health care. The student will create a portfolio of evidence of his/her accomplishments in preparation for a health career. COURSE OBJECTIVES: After the completion of the course the student will: 1. Compose a letter that introduces the student and describes career goal. 2. Develop a professional resume. 3. Plan and carry out a health care application project. 4. Demonstrate ability to write effectively with a writing sample. 5. Attend work-based learning experience/practical experience. 6. Write and present a health-related/HOSA speech to a group. 7. Participate in service learning project or activity. 8. Obtain documentation of credentials. 9. Use technology beyond the basic skill level. 10. Demonstrate leadership experience. 11. Demonstrate improvement in basic academic skills required for success in the health care field***(Feeding Assistant Career Major Only)

INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY PLAN: The student will obtain and follow the guidelines for National Recognition Program. The instructional format may include lecture-discussion, computer-assisted learning, teacher demonstration, student practice, group and independent learning activities, and audiovisual aids. Guest speakers may be utilized to enhance the learning process.

COURSE CONTENT UNIT ARRANGEMENT: HOSA National Recognition Program INSTRUCTOR/STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: The instructor of this course assumes responsibility to provide explicit information regarding expectations of students on required assignments and activities and daters for completion. The major obligation of the student is to demonstrate proficiency while meeting the requirements for this course. Included in this obligation is the necessity of meeting timelines for completion of activities, assignments and tests. Students who need additional help should notify the instructor who will provide additional assistance and/or refer the student to the Academic Center for assistance. Refer to tracking sheet for additional information. EVALUATION PROCEDURE A. Classroom Assignments B. Tests and Skills Check-Offs C. WORK AND ASSIGNMENTS MISSED: Make-up work is allowed only if the absence is excused. It is the students responsibility to request make-up work from the instructor. Shop work is difficult to make up so the instructor may assign written lessons. Make-up work must be completed within two (2) weeks of absences.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY Academic dishonesty or misconduct is neither condoned nor tolerated at Indian Capital Technology Center. Any student found guilty of academic dishonesty or misconduct shall be subject to disciplinary action. STUDENT CONDUCT Students are expected to cooperate in maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning. Courteous and respectful behavior will be expected from all students. Refer to the Student Conduct Policy in the student handbook.
