The song Imagine by John Lennon is one of the worlds most iconic songs ever.

Personally I think it is the best song ever created or will be created. This song uses many linguistic devices such as declarative and imperative phrases, paralinguistic features, prosodic features and deictic language. The beautiful words and the way they are delivered make this particular song what it is today. This song is filled with imperative phrases because it is a request to mankind. Phrases such as Imagine theres no heaven are fragments that implore you to do something. Other examples of this type of phrases are Imagine no possessions and I hope someday youll join us. A few declarative phrases are present in the lyrics as well. For example Its easy if you try and It isnt hard to do are declarative phrases that express the opinion of the lyricist. Paralinguistic and prosodic features are a part of the pieces of writing because of the way Lennon presents the song. His voice and intonation give the song a particular meaning and impression that makes it unique. His uses of these features send a specific message to his listeners. The words of this song use deictic language in every verse. This means that every line relies on context. Just the line No hell below us out of context wouldnt make a lot of sense but as it is part of a verse it has context and meaning. Great songs and pieces of writing are considered great because of their inner meaning and most importantly how they are delivered. This song could have been just another clichd theme but it so much more and that is the beauty of chosen words and clear intentions. If I were to describe the song in a single word it would be Magnificent.
