Week Two Work Sample Explanation: Shantala Shivalingappa Press Release Shivalingappa was the second artist to perform

in the Doris Duke Theatre during week three of the Festival (the Doris Duke Theatre did not have an artist perform during week one of the Festival). Shivalingappa was also the first artist that I was assigned to write a press release about. The first artist who performed in the Duke already had his press release and program information written before I arrived so it allowed me to have an example of what was expected of me. I found the press release format at the Pillow to be much different than anything I had ever encountered before. The basic structure is there with the inverted pyramid format, but all of the information for free talks, performances, and exhibits is listed at the end of the release, making the release longer, but very informative. The release was sent out to targeted journalists a few weeks after it was written and also posted to the Pillows online press room. We had four journalists review the performance and two were from major outletsDance Magazine and The Boston Globe.
