Steve Gray - History of Europe Course Outline

8th Grade

Student work appears in many different forms. Written work includes exercises that require students to show detailed knowledge of the curriculum as well as opportunities for more creative work. Class activities will include lectures, student presentations, discussions, performances, and individual and group projects. My goal is for every student to be challenged and have an opportunity to show their abilities in different ways.

Course Expectations
Required materials Students need to bring the following materials to class everyday: the student planner, pencils or pens, a notebook or folder to keep and organize all assignments and handouts, and textbooks or other assigned reading material. Homework policy Students may turn in work late, but they will only receive half the points of the original value. If you miss a class, YOU are responsible for seeing me to receive the missed work. I will not track you down. Classroom rules/policy/attendance Students will be given a classroom behavior grade that is worth on average 5% of their overall grade. This grade is based on a daily score of points that is tabulated by following the classroom rules. Plagiarism: History is about YOUR interpretation of the past-not someone elses. All work must be your own! Any student caught copying or plagiarizing from the internet or another source will receive an automatic zero for the assignment. Evaluation and grades Students grades consist of the following: essays and writing assignments (20%), quizzes, chapter tests and final exams (40%), daily behavior and attendance (5%), and homework and class assignments (35%). Teacher availability I am available every Monday from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm . If you have questions, please stop by my office during that time. You can also email or call me at school. I am also available to meet with parents at other times by appointment. Please email or call to discuss any issues or questions.
