The article is focused on one of the key questions faced currently by socio
logy of materiality: how is the world of social interaction assembled, framed
and shaped by our (emotional) relations with material things? To answer this
question the author turns to analysis of play and playthings. He shows how
the microsociology of toys can help to reconceptualize materiality in socio
logy of things by stressing the correlation between the normative and inscriptive modality of an object, its inscriptions and affordances, transposition of
scripts from objects of play to a non-play objects, the implicit performati
vity of the interaction between humans and things. Starting with theoretical intuition articulated by material turn in current sociological theory, the
author is working out microsociological model to analyze the materiality of
play-worlds.

Dmitry Kralechkin. Quentin Meillassoux and the Economy of Finitude

The article reconstructs the general philosophical economy of finitude beyond
which Meillassoux has planned to go. The article demonstrates that the circle of correlation as well as a nave realist attitude are constrained by speci
fic pragmatic contradictions which make any conceptualization of finitude
shaky. Meillassoux uses a tension that is not concentrated at single points but
spread all over the vicious circle of finitude. His answer to the problem, however, ignores some possibilities of dealing with facticity because it equates
the descriptivity of ontological conditions with the mere possibility of the
correlations non-being.

Quentin Meillassoux. Spectral Dilemma

The article introduces the notion of essential spectrea dead person whose
death is impossible to mourn after his/her demise. Meillassoux constructs
spectral dilemma as a tool to demonstrate the impasse of both modern theology and atheism. The possibility of essential mourning allowing to resolve
the spectral dilemma is found in divine inexistence: God does not exist yet
but this does not mean that he is impossible. The conceptual conclusion of
the article is an outline of materialistic divinology, the science of the divine
that might emerge from the hyper-chaos of an absolutely contingent being.

Alberto Toscano. Against Speculation

The starting point of the article is Lucio Collettis anti-Hegelian conception
compared to the speculative realism. This juxtaposition allows to answer two
questions: Is non-metaphysical speculation possible? and What is the difference between realism and materialism (and between them both and naturalism)? The background for these questions is the problem of demarcation
in particular tripartite demarcation among science, philosophy and ideology. Meillassouxs gesture engages speculative materialism in the struggle with
pernicious extra-philosophical consequences of correlationism prepackaged
in the notion of fideism. Furthermore, speculative materialism becomes an
ideological operation aimed at the elimination of the collusion between correlationism and irrationalism. In conclusion, there are some critical comments about theoretical validity as well as the ideological efficiency of Meillassouxs whole project.

Siren. Meillassouxs interpretation of Mallarmes poetry is considered in the
general context of Meillassouxs philosophy; it is also treated as a part of the

gures such as Alain Badiou and Slavoy Zizek. Such an analysis enables us to
reveal the internal duality which characterizes this movement, and to outline
the ways for the implementation of the demand of immanent expropriation

Diana Khamis. Correlationist Sterility

This paper seeks to argue that the central argument of Quentin Meillassouxs
book After Finitude is invalid. In most cases, the logical invalidity of arguments does not seem, to the author of this paper, to be the most fateful failure of a book. In After Finitude, however, Meillassoux takes it as his task
to derive an absolute, deductively, from what he calls strong correlationism,
and the failure of the derivation would severely compromise his project. This
paper examines critically the main argument of After Finitude, basing its
examination on Schellings differentiation between positive and negative philosophies. At the end of the examination, the paper finds that Meillassouxs
argument is unable to absolutise contingency as a real necessary consequence
of strong correlationism, but instead, due to the sterility and negativity of the
correlationist circle, makes it into an absolute of thought, against Meillassouxs primary intentions. However, this paper does not argue against Meillassouxs project in general, and instead views it as necessary and fruitful in
the light of the state of present-day philosophy.

It focuses on the similarities and differences in the arguments of both authors,
which can be appropriately described as an analytic and rationalist version of
Neo-Kantianism. Thus, different perspectives on the most important problems in theoretical philosophy are brought up, in particular, the question of
constitution of concepts and the problem of rationalitywhether it is limited to the idea of the space reasons or not.

Nina Dmitrieva. Philosophy as Science and as Weltanschauung: on the Problem
of Pacifism in German and Russian Neo-Kantianism

The paper focuses on the features of the reception of Neo-Kantianism in
Russia and on one of the cases of a reciprocal influence from the Russian
thought, in particular the doctrine of L.Tolstoy on intellectual development
in Germany on the eve of and during the First World War. The Russian NeoKantians conceived their public and scientific mission in Russia in the view of
belated Enlightenment. Therefore they were confronted with two tasks. One
was the scientific determination of the proper subject of philosophy, the other was the secularization of philosophical knowledge. In German Neo-Kantianism the first task was solved. The other took more and more importance
at the beginning of 1910s and became acute during the First World War. There
is an obvious impact on the public statements of H.Cohen and P.Natorp concerning their efforts to justify the current war. The Russian Neo-Kantian and
the follower of Tolstoy O.P.Buek advocated the ideas of pacifism that attraced
and inspired prominent figures such as GeorgF.Nikolai and Albert Einstein.

Quentin Skinner. The Idea of Negative Liberty: Philosophical and Historical Perspectives

The concept of freedom, despite its categorial status within the political philosophy of modernity, all too often displays its nature through conflicts with
existing social and political practices and the moral codes they embody. This
testifies to the growing tension inside the conceptual framework of freedom
(liberty), which, in turn, invites theorists efforts to analyze freedom as a developing entity. The central issue (aswell as the major driving force) of the
development in question may be a failure to reconcile different methodological approaches with free will. The article points out one historically persisting case of methodological confrontation: (1) the superdetermination of freedom by necessity, and (2) the superdetermination of necessity by freedom.
