Wells CAHS

This course prepares students to make informed decisions about resources and systems in the natural world. Topics include watersheds and wetlands, renewable and nonrenewable resources, environmental health, agriculture and society, ecosystems and their interactions, endangered species, and humans and the environment. EXPECTATIONS I. Keep up with the material and study II. Do your homework III. Take notes IV. Use your resources V. Come to class MATERIALS Textbook, Lab Notebook, Graphing Calculator, Pen or Pencil OFFICE HOURS I am available on nearly a daily basis after school. The best way to find me is to come to my classroom within 10 minutes of the final bell. Many of the assignments I will require you to email (vs. print, we are eco-friendly!). The email for that is kaminskihomework@gmail.com. You can use this email for questions as well. The webpage will provide you resources needed for class. That site is kaminskiscienceclass.com. You can email me directly from there too. Get comfortable with the site, you will be expected to check it frequently. ASSIGNMENTS You will be expected to complete the bell ringer in your notebook daily upon entering class. Work also consists of writing notes in your notebook from lectures, movies, or other activities. Classwork activities may be reading, writing, worksheets, or lab exercises. Homework assignments will be due the following day unless otherwise noted. It is expected that you complete class assignments during class and homework will be due the following day, unless otherwise noted. Submit assignments in the correct homework bin. Notebook checks will occur weekly. COURSE POLICIES Entry to Class Students must be in assigned seat by second bell and immediately take out materials needed for class, and begin work on the bell ringer. The voice level during this time should be a 0 or 1. Tardy students will come to class quietly and hand me your tardy pass. Exit from Class I will announce when we have approximately 2 minutes until the bell rings to allow time to gather materials and turn in assignments. Students shall stay seated until they are dismissed by the teacher.

Bathroom/Hall Passes Ask if you need to be excused to use the bathroom, and I will need to write you a pass. No bathroom passes during the first or last 10 minutes of class. Students will not be allowed to leave class for materials. They can borrow materials from another student. Food/Drink Food is not permitted at any time during class. You may keep a water bottle in your backpack. During any lab activity, NO food or drinks are permitted. Late/Missing Assignments and Exams Assigned work will be turned in on time; late work will be penalized accordingly. Students will be accountable for makeup work. Please refer to late work policy. Academic Dishonesty Copying of homework for ANY class will not be allowed. Students will not be allowed to talk during tests or quizzes. Students who do will have their tests confiscated and receive a zero for the test. Copying, plagiarism, academic theft, or dishonesty in classes will be handled accordingly. All students involved in dishonest practices will receive a zero and may require a parent conference. Daily Participation Grade You will grade yourself daily on your performance in class. I will sign your form during the last 5-10 minutes of class. You will submit your form on Friday, at which point the grade will be entered in Gradebook. If your form is lost or you are absent, you will receive 0 points. GRADING CRITERIA A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F less than 60%
