THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HOLY COMMUNION Through Holy Communion, the faithful are united as a church, for because of one

bread are we the many one body, for we all do partake of the one bread (1 Corinthians 10:17). THE SIGNICANCE OF TAKING HOLY COMMUNION ONCE A MONTH? If Holy Communion is that which unites the church as the body of Christ, then THE FAITHFUL ARE ONLY UNITED AS A CHURCH ONCE A MONTH. This is the reason why MOST CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP IS VERY INDIVIDUALISTIC in focus, Huwag mong isispin ang katabi mo (Do not think about your seatmate): your worship is only between you and God. Thus, instead of a united church worshiping, most contemporary worship has individuals who happen to be worshipping in the same place. Physically together, yesyet spiritually apart. John Wesley wrote, I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist . But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case, unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out. THE CONSTANT ATTENDANCE OF HOLY COMMUNION (several times a week) WAS AN IMPORTANT DOCTRINE AND DISCIPLINE OF THE EARLY METHODISTS, yet now this doctrine and discipline is rejected and denigrated as legalistic and even slandered as a means of disgrace. Therefore, as John Wesley wrote, do I not see how it is possible, in the nature of things, for any revival of true religion to continue long. I fear that contemporary Methodism in the NCR is basing their unity more on constant compromise rather than on constant communion.
