Student Self-Assessment Checklist for Six Traits of Writing

Name: Francis DeGuzman Assignment: Make a story 4 = Excellent ORGANIZATION __3__I have a great title that cleverly relates to my story. __4__My main idea jumps right out at you from the beginning of my story. __3__I use an effective beginning strategy. The strategy is to tell the reader what exciting things that happened before the main text happens.. __3_The whole thing is organized to help you go from point to point without ever feeling lost. My story is told in a good order. __2__Every statement I make relates in some way to my main point. __3__My conclusion reinforces and supports my main point. My story has a good ending. IDEAS AND CONTENT __3__My paper is clear, focused and purposeful. You can identify and understand my message. __3__I have plenty of information from experience and/or research. I have included sufficient details in my story. __2__I chose information I knew would answer readers' questions. __2__I use evidence and examples to support every single point I make. There are NO gaps. VOICE __3__I have energy, enthusiasm, and the confidence that comes from knowing a topic well. __4__You can tell I like this topic and this story sounds like me. I can identify my favorite part. __3__You'll want to know more about this topic, too, once you read my paper. __2__I thought of my audience the whole time I was writing. I tried to answer their questions. __2__My voice is strong, but under control. My voice is not too funny or sarcastic, etc. WORD CHOICE __1__I have used words that I love and I can identify my favorite word. __2__I avoid vague language: stuff that's like, you know, too vague and stuff. __2__The words I chose are right for my audience whether they are first graders or scientists. SENTENCE FLUENCY __3__Every sentence in my paper is grammatically correct. I checked. __3__Sentences begin in different ways. __2__I used transition words to show how ideas connect. __3__I used long and short sentence lengths. __3__I have included enough sentences to tell my story well. __3__You will find my writing very easy to follow. __2__My story sounds good when read aloud. CONVENTIONS __3__My mechanics (spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar) are correct. __4__I left spaces between words. __2__I left margins on the left and on the right. __3__Another person can easily read this story. __4__ I edited this paper. REFLECTIONS 1. What part of your paper are you most proud of and why? I liked the last part of the story because Flash ws able to save the whole world.

2. a) What area of your writing will you concentrate on the most in your revision to improve? I would like to improve concentrate o n the speeches that the characters say.

b) How will you do this? By thinking of great lines for the characters and make it a bit more longer.

3. What do you hope your paper leaves your audience thinking about? I hope the 10 12 years old pep[;e can understand and like my story because its a sci-fy story based on a tv show. 4. If your teacher was to read your paper and use this checklist to evaluate your paper, do you think your teacher would agree with your scores? Explain. I think he would agree to my story because I tried my best to base it on a show witch I watched at my childhood.
