people. Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, was an Indian
scientist and politician who played a leading role in the development of Indias nuclear weapons programs. He was a small town boy from Tamil Nadu, who is now a world renowned scientist. He views

his work on India's nuclear weapons program as a way to claim India's place as a dominating power. Even during his presidency, APJ Kalam took devoted interest in India's science and technology. Even though he was Muslim, he was encouraged by the Hindu supporters to run for
president. Kalam won the election and became Indias 11th president in July 2002. He was the president of India from 2002 to 2007. All through his presidency he remained committed to using science and technology to transform India into a developed country. He firmly believes that India needs to play a more assertive role in international relations. He has received honorary doctorates from about 30 universities globally and was reward with numerous awards for his work, two of which are the countrys highest honors, the Padma Vibhushan and the Bharat Ratna. He is a man full of ideas for the development of the country. People love and respect Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and popularly call him the People's President. He brought new vision to his people, and continues to do so. He encourages the young generation to be forthcoming, bold, to dream big and achieve those dreams. Even though he is no longer Indias president, he is still thought of with great admiration and respect. .
