2 26 August 2013 Superhero Comic: Spiderman The first comic book appeared in the United States around 1933 and was basically just a reprinting or newspaper comics. Since then Americans have created the most comic books along with British comics, European comics, Italian and even Japanese Manga. In the early 1970s is when something known as underground comics began to boom. Underground comics are comics that are self illustrated comics and most are involved with nudity, sex, profanity, and politics. I think its interesting to know that people are so interested in comics from when they started years ago back then to the future of today. Comic books interest people so much that people even have the collectors editions from years back. The most valuable comics have so much rarity in them nowadays from first appearances from superheroes and other types of characters that they can go for outrageous amounts of money. For the first appearance of Superman the highest amount that is recorded is $2.16 million. Over the years the ways have changed to get comics. It all started out as newspaper strips, to actual comic book and the latest version thanks to Marvel is digitally which is how I got all my Spiderman comic books. Marvel later launched a website November 13, 2007 which is an application where you are able to read comic books of many different types on devices like phones or on a computer. It seems to be the most famous and known way to read comic books nowadays. I never wouldve even guessed that comic books would have even made it this far because of how long ago they were published. I never wouldve realized that the longer comic books stay around the higher their value gets.

Besides that point my Superhero is Spiderman who also goes by many other nicknames such as Spidey, Web-Slinger, Wall-Crawler, and Web-Head. Spiderman is a fictional character thats a comic book superhero. He also has many different background stories and was published by Marvel Comics and first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August 1962. The series was about a teenage high school boy named Peter Parker also known as Spiderman. Marvel has published several comic books involving Spiderman which happens to be the first and longest lasting comic book called The Amazing Spiderman. Over the years Peter Parkers character has changed from a shy and nerdy high school kid to outgoing college student, to married teacher or the most famous one is a single photographer which happens to be his typical adult role. There is so many different types of back stories if things I never even knew about Spiderman. Like the fact that he dates a girl names Gwen who later dies because of his nemesis and eventually marries another girl named Mary Jane who just so happens to be his dream girl. It just so happens that Spiderman happens to be one of the most popular and successful superheroes because of his many different back stories. He has appeared in many other forms besides comic books such as television shows, newspaper comic strips, a series of movies played by Toby Maguire for the first three and Andrew Garfield in the most recent one called The Amazing Spiderman that is more based off the comic books. In 1962 with the success because of the Fantastic Four, Marvel Comics editor Stan Lee was looking for a new superhero idea. He mentioned that the idea for Spiderman came from the desire to create a character that teenagers could relate to. He also claimed that the nonsuperhuman crime fighter The Spider was a great influence when it came to writing the Spiderman series. Lee also claimed that he was further inspired by watching a spider climb a wall. In the 1990s Marvel editor and chief stated that he didnt think Spiderman would have even

had a chance in todays world of comics. After Stan got consent from just about everyone to go through with Spiderman he had only one person left and that was Publisher Martin Goodman. Martin Goodman eventually agreed to let Stan Lee go through with the comic. He let him try it out on the final issue of the Amazing Adult Fantasy #15. After Lee received to continue on with his Spiderman issue he went to artist Jack Kirby. After they sat down and discussed what the story line was going to be they started on the pages. Surprisingly after Kirby was done with the first six pages Lee said he completely hated how Kirby had did it. He said that its not that Jack Kirby had done them bad he just didnt do them how Lee had wanted. After coming out with story boards Kirby claimed that Lee had little participation with it and claimed that Lee had taken his idea when he showed him his ideas for a comic idea called the Silver Spider. Kirby was still assigned to do sample pages for Spiderman and still did the cover art for the Amazing Fantasy. Kirby later ended up doing the first cover page for the Amazing Spiderman. Reading the Spiderman comics I realize that you can tell the differences with how they are written. I had downloaded about eight different Spiderman comics and after watching all the movies the newer version The Amazing Spiderman with Andrew Garfield it is more related to the comics unlike the other movies. Like the fact that in the comics and the movie the Amazing Spiderman it starts from when Peter Parkers in high school when he creates his identity. In the other movie Spidermans powers were actually given to him such as how he shoots webs from his veins unlike the comic where he creates a web shooter and creates his costume that wasnt all high tech how they made it seem. He also gained super strength from being bit by a radioactive spider, He also later becomes a television star after fighting crime. Besides having superpowers Peter Parker is a high school student that struggles helping his widowed aunt. Not only is he dealing with that but hes being bullied by his peers but mostly a football player named Flash

Thompson. Peter later struggles with balancing everything in his life starting from his superhero side and ending with his nerdy, shy high school self. Peter later graduates high school and enrolls at Empire State University where he meets his roommate and best friend Harry Osborn. He later meets Gwen Stacy who eventually starts dating but is later introduced by his aunt to Mary Jane Watson. As the comics go on Peter later finds out that his best friends father turns out to be his nemesis named the Green Goblin. From 1984 to 1988 spider man had worn a black costume with a white spider design, the new costume originated in The Secret Wars limited series. Because of how popular Spiderman is in Marvel publishers have been able to create different types of story lines based off of the Spiderman comics. I really enjoyed reading the comics that I had downloaded Im not much of a comic person. I would rather watch the movie then read the comic but maybe thats just me. When it comes to superheroes Im a big fan the only difference between the superhero I chose is it just so happens to not be my favorite superhero. Dont get me wrong because I love the story line to Spiderman but for some strange reason my favorite superhero is Batman. Its kind of funny because people say Batman isnt really a superhero but after reading the Spiderman comics, what makes a superhero? Technically Spidermans basically the same as batman because of how instead of getting his webbing powers in his veins he had made a device that slings webs from the containers. Besides that fact I can say that Spiderman is growing on me little by little and thats a good thing. Theres certain things that are kind of interesting things about Spiderman like the fact thats he is really unique and doesnt have typical superhero powers other than his strength. Its interesting how he can shoot webs and that he creatively came up and decided to build that for his super hero outfit. I think the one thing I truly loved about reading the comics is with each comic it seemed like Peter Parkers characters attitude was always changing. Its as if

behind his secret identity it was bringing his emotions more out and he was transitioning from a shy nerdy high schooler to a cocky witty superhero. Its as if he was just acting himself, who wouldve known that a spider bite and a costume would bring out that side of him. I truly enjoyed being able to read about a superhero that I never wouldve guessed is actually cool and interesting in so many different ways. At first I couldnt even imagine the fact that comics have even made it this far into our generation. As each year we get more high tech it looks like comic books will still be able to find their way around even in paper form still.
