    STATEMENT FROM THE KAREN COMMUNITY OF CANADA IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, Ontario

    September 1st, 2013

    The Karen Community of Canada completed its 6th conference at the York University Keele Campus in Toronto, Ontario. The conference was held from August 3rd to August 5th 2013. About 34 representatives from nine cities attended the conference. The KCCs theme for advocacy and development remain the same; however, the KCC will focus more on political advocacy and social devolvement work with professionally trained core members to work with Karen from diverse background as well as other ethnic groups from Burma and Burmese pro-democracy activists to advocate human rights, transition to democracy and freedom, peace plan and resettlement plan for Karen refugees to their homeland. KCC will closely work and inform and consult with local communities in regular basic. During three days long conference, The KCC received a strong moral support from local communities including Karen spiritual groups to perform its work related to political, social and cultural for all Karen who came from Burma. The members of the Karen Community of Canada greatly appreciate the York University for their generous sponsorship for the venue.
