The qualifications listed in this leaflet do not require assessment by the New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Qualifications will qualify for points on the basis of their
assessed position on the Register (see SM14.15 of the Skilled Migrant Category).
The List of Recognised Qualifications is for immigration purposes only. The inclusion of a
qualification on this list does not have bearing on the status of the qualification for professional
registration, further study, salary or employment purposes.
All teaching qualifications and degrees in Education will need to be assessed by the NZQA for
teacher registration and salary purposes, should an applicant wish to enter the teaching
profession within New Zealand.

Bachelors degrees requiring 3 or more years of full time study from the following institutions are assessed as
occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.
Masters degrees and PhDs from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 9 or 10 of the
Register and will therefore qualify for 55 points, provided the holder of the qualification also obtained their
undergraduate (Bachelors) degree from an institution included on the List of Recognised Qualifications. If
the Masters degree is not preceded by an undergraduate degree from an institution included on the List of
Recognised Qualifications it is assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50
points.
Honours degrees from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 8 of the Register and will
therefore qualify for 50 points.
Graduate and post graduate diplomas require a NZQA assessment for points allocation.

People’s Republic of China
Bachelors degrees awarded according to the Regulations Concerning Academic Degrees of the People’s
Republic of China requiring 4 or more years of full time study (gained in or after 1982) are assessed as
occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.
All Masters degrees (other than Master of Business Administration), awarded according to the Regulations
Concerning Academic Degrees of the People’s Republic of China (gained in or after 1984) are assessed as
occupying Level 9 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 55 points provided the holder of the
qualification also obtained their undergraduate (Bachelors) degree from an institution included on the List of
Recognised Qualifications. If the Masters degree is not preceded by an undergraduate degree from an
institution included on the List of Recognised Qualifications it is assessed as occupying Level 7 of the
Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Republic of China are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Note: All Bachelors and Masters degrees issued in the People’s Republic of China after 1984 must be endorsed
“Awarded according to the Regulations Concerning Academic Degrees in the People’s Republic of China”.
Fiji

Bachelors degrees requiring 3 or more years of full time study from the institutions listed in Group “A” are
assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.
Bachelors degrees requiring 3 or more years of full time study awarded in the First or Second Division or
Class from the institutions listed in Group “B” are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will
therefore qualify for 50 points.
Masters degrees and PhDs from institutions in Group “A” and Group “B” are assessed as occupying Level 9
or 10 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 55 points, provided the holder of the qualification also
obtained their undergraduate (Bachelors) degree from an institution included in one of the two groups. If the
Masters degree is not preceded by an undergraduate degree from an institution listed in one of the two
groups, it is assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.
Honours degrees from the listed institutions are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will
therefore qualify for 50 points.
