REAL STREET MUSIC: RAP IN 2020

A dissertation on hip-hop:2020 by Chase Riviera Contrary to the drawings in most CP2020 books, there are still Blacks, Hispanics and other fans of hip-hop in 2020. This is a profile of diffent, key areas and their big names EAST SIDE (PHILADELPHIA, NEW YORK, BOSTON, PITTSBURGH) The birthplace of hip-hop is still it's nerve center. Currently, Eastern Rap represents a gritty, almost industrial style of music. Sampling of bands like Ministry and Nine Inch Nails is rampant. Lyrics have become, by and large, angry and violent. Bands: Black Legion, Shaolin Ironfists, Zulu Empire, Ghostface Killah, Death Dealah and Urban Pope TORONTO-HAMILTON SPRAWL Street Hard, yet fun loving hip-hop from the biggest metropolis in Canada. Heavily influenced by reggae, dub and techno. Toronto Rap is the most popular in Europe and India, and the most multicultural Bands: Tha Rock, Savage Kingdom, Tha Rampage, MC Chandra, Beatmaster Bert and Los Tupamaros DIRTY SOUTH(NEW ORLEANS, JACKSONVILLE, ATLANTA, MEMPHIS, NASHVILLE AND LITTLE ROCK) Creatively stagnant, Electro-Rap made by money hungry posers. Naturally, it's very popular. Bands: Lil' Duane, Cash Money Megacorps, Funky Kad, Nashkill, Doc Switch and Georgia Boyz WEST COAST (OAKLAND, SAN DIEGO AND LOS ANGELES) Western Rap has moved from the "G-Funk" of Dr.Dre to the so called "A-Style" of producers like I Wise, Goldburgg and Tru Operator. This style samples traditional sounds from Africa, China and The Middle East, mixes it with Cuban and Brazillian musics and turns it into a bizarre kind of party vibe. Western vocalists espouse a lifestyle of positivity, sex and cannabis consumption. Bands: Goldburgg and Not Mike, The Dogg Park, Tha Alkaholiks (still kicking) and Tha Yakuzah NEW DELHI A strange sound, sampling heavy metal and traditional Indian music.
