Unit 3 has three main purposes. The first is to introduce students to the American Tour, a year long data project. The second is to examine properties of basic plane figures and the use of geometry tools. Students will use compasses, rulers, protractors, and their Geometry Template. Lastly, the students will explore tessellations with polygons. We will continue to flip our math class. Students should watch the videos at home and answer the quick check to be prepared for learning the next day.

Math: Unit 3-American Tour

Math Unit 3:acute angle, adjacent angles, arc, census, congruent, equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle, obtuse angle, pentagon, perimeter, radius, reflex angle, regular polygon, tessellation, right angle, scalene triangle, vertical (opposite) angles, angles Spelling: Students should be practice all their words from the previous weeks (Weeks 1-5). The words on the Unit test will be randomly selected from the weekly spelling tests.

This week students will use class time to complete a project that combines all the reading skills and strategies we have been working on in Unit 1. The 5th grade teachers received a letter from a well-known Hollywood produced asking for our students help. Students will demonstrate their understanding by creating one of the following items: a movie script, a storyboard, or a movie trailer. Students can bring in their own electronic devices to work on this project, but must have a parents signature on the permission letter that went home in Friday folders.

Did you check out the glogs on our class site? Go the the Student Work page and have a look, and please leave a comment for our students! Friday will be our first round of Current Events. Students will need to research and find a current event that interests them and prepare a brief presentation for the class. The presentation needs to include the 5 Ws of the event and why it is important enough to be in the news.
